That Filifera looks half fried already. How cold have you gone down to there so far this winter?

    Struggling philodendrons

Agree with others ..increase your irrigation. Regarding sulfur, sul po mag will help but less so during the cooler months compared to when the plants are in active growth ( warmer months ) While the effect is temporary / gradual, applying sulfur will increase the acidity of alkaline soil when added. Helps break up heavy clay soil as well ..to some degree at least. I myself would start dumping piles of leaves around those specimens to start getting more organics into the soil around them / lower the soil's native ph more permanently. Grow fine in our native, highly alkaline soil ..as long as they get regular water ..and some afternoon shade.

    Windmill Palm Seeds

I think I'm interested in getting some, I'm just terrible at getting them to sprout let alone potting and stuff. I wish I could start them in ground reliably because any trachys Ive had in cups and stuff always pass away. I can never keep them alive in pots.

What is your current yard temperature?

84°F in Rio Hondo, TX today - had to mow the lawn. Rio Grande City hit 90°F yesterday!

    Calyptrocalyx, anyone? In California?

I am still growing a Calyptrocalyx Albertisianus that I got from Floribunda palms for about a year now in a gallon pot, he did lose fronds in spring even though I protected him well during winter, he grew a stunted leaf, but now he has grown a new normal looking frond, he adapted to the cold rain and wind very fast. Last winter he faced some drops to 37, but he appeared unfazed. This year he faced 40 and still looked unfazed. Now: A year ago:

What's your 2025 christmas forecast, like

It has been a mild winter so far here but the cold is about arrive. They are forecasting the coldest Christmas in at least 5 years for most of us in Europe. I will be lucky to escape a frost here on Christmas Day. I have seen some crazy charts for France and Spain in recent days. This won't happen, but that is extreme for UK standards even. The Med regions are frozen on that even. Spain might get a crap ton of snow next week...

What is your current yard temperature?

Happy winter solstice! Certainly doesn't feel like winter....80 plus/27C at both airports. The local weather people keep pushing up the projected highs into and past Christmas, they underestimated the heat today too 😅

    Struggling philodendrons

Would dropping in some SulPoMag take care of that? Intrigued with that prescription. And naive question - how does sulfur combat the alkaline issues with SD soil? Thank you!
  23. A tough old one you have there, I like integrifolia easy to predict there grow patterns, and take a lot hard gardening conditions.

    Need advice about Ptycosperma elegans

They are from the tropics and you’re ones are cold, a bit more humidity may help with the spotting, try to avoid wetting the leaves!
  25. Sabals do look tropical, especially trunking ones.
  26. I never ever grew a fan palm.. they just don't look tropical enough to me. Perhaps because some of them are so common where I live. If I find one that looks different, more tropical, lush, rainforest kinda palm, I'll happily go for it!
