Seeking seeds from: Rhapidophyllum hystrix and Sabal minor
by OntarioPalms- 2 replies

Hello, I am a palm fan currently living in a zone far too cold to cultivate members of the palm family in the ground without protection and artificial heat. I am looking for a source that will sell and ship palm seeds into Canada. I am in a zone 4 and am hoping to do a large grow out of palm seedlings for an experiment (different protection methods mostly- but also testing to see if there is much natural variability in genes or gene expression related to cold tolerance). Ideally I would be able to find a low cost source for seed sourced from northern/inland populations of these species to grow out. I think that select cultivated plants from beyond the native range wo…

WTB Genera Palmarum book by Dransfield

I know this is a long shot, but I am looking to purchase John Dransfield's Genera Palmarum. Release year is not important, but latest issue is preferred. If anybody has an extra/used one lying around and is willing to sell it, I'd be interested. As long as the book doesn't have highlighting/writing/personal footnotes in it, I am not sensitive to the condition of the book. Can be worn. Willingness to ship out to the EU is necessary as I am not visiting the US/Australia in the near future. Shipping/handling costs will naturally be covered by me. If I can't find a used edition, I'll buy it off amazon, but I thought I'd try and see if there's anybody on here who'd h…

Watch out for scammers!

First of all, I want to preface this thread by saying that I don't know 100% that these people are scammers, but my suspicions have been raised enough to make me post... I started a thread last week asking for Cycas revoluta x debaoensis seeds. A Palmtalk user who has no post history sent me a message saying they had received these seeds from @MattyB and gave me an email address to contact him on. I sent an email and had some slightly strange interactions with someone called Pete who, at first, wasn't forthcoming with information about where they had sourced the seed from. I suppose in my desire to source these seeds I was willing to look past this, and I proceeded t…

Burnets oak

This looks like the closest to live oak a zone 6 guy could reasonably grow. It's quercus macrocarpa by quercus virginiana. Native to Texas. I know there's other crosses but I have a soft spot for bur oak. Looking for an acorn source TIA N8
