Free Butia
by Josue Diaz- 2 replies
Needing to make some space, and this butia hybrid turned out to be mostly, if not entirely, butia. A beautiful palm, but I need the space for something else. I am game to help you dig, would be a simple task as long as you steer clear of the neighboring agaves (lots of spines!). Soil is very loose, sandy loam. You can cut right through it like cutting through butter. Pick up in Fresno.

Deppea grandiflora

I have grown this plant from a tiny start. It is now 9 feet tall, in a 7 gallon pot. The plant branches freely, so one might prune off the top in order to transport it in the vehicle The flower is totally different from D. splendens, so much that I can't understand how the two species are in the same genus, but then, I am no taxonomist !

Free Brahea armata & armata hybrid
by Josue Diaz- 2 replies
I have several hundred seedlings of mixed armata and armata hybrid. The seed for the hybrid came from @DoomsDave and are off his "frankenbrahea" hybrid. The pure armata came from a local armata. I was growing these in ground and was slowly potting them up, but I'm having some cement work done and had to pull these out lest they be removed or buried beneath concrete. Free! Come take as many as you'd like - no shipping sorry. For pick up in Fresno.

My neighbor has a couple of these that he left in big tree pots for way too long. He’s in the San Diego area, and it appears they’re both nearly head high. But he’d like to see them go to a good home.

Mississippi Sabal Minor seeds - FRESH
by JohnAndSancho- 5 replies
I can attest to the cold hardiness of these. They've seen single digits. They've seen snow they've seen ice they've seen triple digits. I don't know how long they've been there, and I left PLENTY. I dunno the legality of this, but I can always tell the cops they're just gonna sprout up and get mowed and the landscapers are just gonna cut. Anyway I've got more than I can ever use, I'm already sending off 2 baggies of them and should still have plenty. Pay postage and I'll send you some. I can get more. Reply here or DM me or whatever. I ain't cleaning them 😂

Sabal Palmetto seeds
by JohnAndSancho- 3 replies
Tell me how many you want and pay postage. I don't want to count, so let's go from "handful," "a little bit," or a pile. I've still got some Minor too, all of these were collected locally from short and stumpy Palmettos. They've seen temps anywhere from 9° to triple digits, snow, ice, drought, monsoons, pretty much everything except fire and earthquakes.

Leucothrinax Morrisii Seeds
by Johnny Palmseed- 2 replies

So I collected this years batch and decided that I just don’t need them since I have a bunch of volunteers popping up near the adult. Also, I haven’t had much luck with germinating them myself even though they seem to be growing well in the ground. Ideally, I would like to send 1 or 2 packages at most. I believe that I have around 40-50 seeds. PM me if you are interested. US only John

The palm below has been in my garden since about 2004, when I got it as a 15 gallon. It's now about 10 feet tall. This is a great species for those PalmTalkers who must contend with heat and cold. It's native to Argentina, where it experiences both. If you're in the Mediterranean region in Europe, England, maybe even Holland, these are worth a try in the ground. Likewise in the Southeastern US where a lot of cool palms are marginal; South Carolina, and southern Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana and Northern Florida. Try them in West Texas, Arizona. They will take cool, too, in British Columbia, northern California, coastal Oregon and Washington. And, anyw…

I have a few seedlings and small palms that I am willing to give away to anyone in or passing through the San Antonio area. I am not interested in shipping anything right now. First up, I have I sabal I bought as a S. causiarum. It does grow more quickly than palmetto or mexicana, but it took damage in the ground last winter at 27F and burned 100% at 23fF. So, I am not sure if it is actually causiarum. I have a trio of W. filifera as well: About a half dozen P. dactylifera seedlings, as well as one lager one that is already pinnate: And a fishtail I grew from seed. It won't last the winter here. So, it is either going to burn u…

Palm trees going begging in SoCal (SB)
by Sean Osborne- 0 replies
This post will take a bit of patience. Hi folks, I’m in an … interesting situation. I have recently taken over caring for my father, Barry Osborne’s, extensive palm tree collection in Santa Barbara. Dad pretty much gave up on it 10 years ago do to failing health, and when his elaborate drip irrigation setup began to fail, Mom had some gardeners put in sprinklers. This is Santa Barbara. The water bills are immense. I am slowly re-establishing the drip irrigation system and phasing out the sprinklers. But. There are dozens of palm tree seedlings and some good-sized volunteers which have come up in the watered area over the past decade. Once I shift over to dr…

What's out there?

Dunno if I'm allowed to ask this here, but long story short I did end up losing my car/apartment and had to come back to my mom's. I could only squeeze a few of my palms in the U-Haul, and my mom dropped one of my L. Weddellaniums and her cats basically gave a hurricane cut to my C. Plumosa. I know @DoomsDave is always good for seeds, but anybody else have any cuttings/seedlings/seeds for a good cause to replenish my collection? I'll take any and everything.

Phoenix hybrid (reclinata x canariensis) x rupicola
by Josue Diaz- 2 followers
- 2.5k views
I have ripening seed of this hybrid - the seed parent is a hybrid of unknown parentage. I purchased it as Phoenix reclinata, but it is likely a hybrid of reclinata and canariensis, or dactylifera and canariensis. Either way, solitary with small but yummy fruit, and very rigid leaves. The pollen parent is a Phoenix rupicola from RPS seed. I hand pollinated the flowers, but it's also likely they could have received canariensis pollen from one of several mature canariensis or from a mature dactylifera on my block. Free Hura crepitans -Dynamite/Sandbox Tree- Seeds
by Loxahatchee Adam- 6 replies
- 4.1k views
I have some fresh Hura crepitans seeds available off my tree here. I've yet to hear any do their namesake dynamite pop though. The pods are all maturing on the tree and opening on their own. When I take the seeds out, they are soft/leathery shelled and white. No hard brown seed coat. I'm not sure if they will air dry to that or? They feel firm and fully formed inside though. I attached a pic (seeds laid out are from larger pod). I'm not sure if it's better to wait till they harden off first or send them fresh and soft. Anyone have any insight they can post here? Send a PM if interested.
