   July 26 2008 the First Coast Chapter of the IPS is going to get together at the FCCJ (First Coast Community College - Jacksonville) to tour the palm collection. Chuck Hubbuch has generously offered to give us an update on his recent adventures to study palms, cycads, and other interesting plants. We will also be holding a plant auction so you may buy or sell palms, cycads, or other plants. We hope you will be able to attend!

   How many cyber friendships from "Palm Talk" and other web communities have emerged from two dimensional status to three dimensional friendships? How many posters regularly visit eachother's homes and over time, have developed strong face-to-face friendships? Just Curious? Also if you all do "get together" do the conversations mostly concentrate on palms or do your "live" frienships usually go beyond the initial focus subject that brought you together?

   Hey everyone...... It's that time again for our annual summer Kick-off party on Long Island with Tropical Drinks, Steel Drum Music, all the food you can eat, and of course - loads of palms..... Anyone from Palmtalk who will be visiting the New York area is invited...... In the last (4) years since we've been having this party, it has steadily grown to take on a life of it's own.....     MAY MEETING 10AM SATURDAY, MAY 24, 2008 We will be visiting two wonderful gardens and the Fullerton Arboretum. The meeting begins at 10AM at the garden of Louis and Carol Hooper, 505 N. Lois St., La Habra 90631. If you have not seen the Hooper’s garden, it is a must. The vast array of mature, rare palms is amazing, all grown to perfection.     At Edith Bergstroms place from 1-4 pm. We are delighted to have an invitation to visit one of the most beautiful gardens in the area. The garden is large and diverse, including several microclimate niches from desert to tropical. Of course there is a spectacular collection of mature and exotic palm specimens to enhance your botanical experience. There will be a potluck and auction. More information to be posted soon. I won't be able to go as I have another commitment. I'm bummed as Ive heard Edith's place is really nice.

    I don’t think any of the Gulf Coast Palm Society officers are on Palm Talk, so I will post their meeting information I received. The spring meeting will be in Cantonment, Florida on Sunday, June 1 beginning at 11:30 am. The last information I have lists the officers as being located in Mobile, Dauphin Island, Loxley and Fairhope Alabama and Pensacola, Cantonment and Panama City Florida. They usually have several vice presidents to cover the large area. They meet four times a year and publish a quarterly newsletter.     The South Florida chapter put together three awsome gardens to tour in Broward County. The weather was beautiful as well as a great turn out of visitors. For many, it was their first time seeing some of these gardens. The first garden we went to was Paul Humann who has 2 1/2 acres and has been there 14 years now. There was at least 8 forum members including myself there as well, so please feel free to add your own pictures if you like. Here's Andrea with Paul Humann as we arrived.

    The Brisbane Palm and Cycad society is having a field outing on Sunday the 26th of April to Mt Warning National Park. This will involve a walk along the path to the summit, seeing 3 native species of palms and lot of lush rainforest. We will then return to the bottom of the mountain and have a free BBQ lunch.
