I attended a meeting of the First Coast Palm Society this past Saturday and the members agreed to facilitate and host Palmfest 2007. It is my understanding that FCPS Treasurer, Matt Encinosa, has been in contct with John DeMott to advise that we will be hosting the event. We are in the process of determing a venue to host the event in the NE Florida area and setting the date. We are looking at hosting the event some time in the September to early October range. We do want to make sure that the event does not conflict with any large Palm Sales or other events that may detract from interest in the event. Is anyone aware of any other events that we should take into con…

SFPS will hold its sale at Montgomery Botanic Center for the first time ever! A limited tour is available but why look at their stuff when you can buy the same thing for yourself? The very seed from MBC palms (and don't forget the ones from FTBG and Flamingo) are distributed to us and we waste no time getting them to market! See palms that are almost never available for sale anywhere, all in the same place at one time! Folks this is the real thing. This is The Worlds Largest sale of palms, from many vendors, in one place. Don't miss it!

This Sunday, the 24th of June at 10:00am...Palm Grove Nat'l Park, Mt Tamborine. We will be walking the trails through this lovely piece of rainforest and will see some great palms and other rainforest plants. Hopefully it won't rain too much! After our walk, we will then head down the mountain towards the Gold Coast and visit Bamboo Downunder nursery. They have a spectacular display garden with bamboo and some palms as well. Their nursery stocks some great plants that have all been hardened off to local conditions, and some are unusual species such as Physokentia insolita. The bamboos for sale are good too... Daryl

I have been instructed by UGL of England that we are all supposed to make the Craft less "secret" . Oh well I have been a member for many years and I loved the ceremonials and those fantastic dinners. Thats where I learned my public speaking. Us guys are NOT in a Great Conspiracy for World Domination. Mores the pity! We raise millions for heart and cancer charities and are bringing up and educating orphans. If there is a great conspiracy please let me know! (its usually Masons, Jews, Communists, and Gays who are responsible apparently) - sure we have Jewish and Gay Guys on the forum -some of top members - tho I doubt if we have any Commies here! Regardez brethren …

Posting this at the request of Jeff Chemnick folks...this is his post on the cycad group board: Hello Group, Dry your crying eyes! Though Cycad Day at the Huntington has just sold out, here is an equally entertaining opportunity for a botanically-fascintating Saturday, June 16...at Lotusland in Santa Barbara! Don Hodel, noted palm authority, will be visiting Lotusland and making a presentation on...palm trees (large group of derived monocotyledonous angiosperms superficially evocative of and splendid examples of convergent evolution with cycads). The program begins in the afternoon and will feature not only a riveting talk and garden tour but wine, cheese, etc. …
