The September meeting of the Palm Society of Southern California is going to be on Saturday September 16 at the amazing garden of Ralph Velez in Westminster. For those who don't know Ralph, he has over 400 species growing, and quite a few of the palms are ~40 years old. We'll also be touring a local park where Ralph has been able to create a palm island for the public. As always, there will be an auction at the meeting. There's usually a lot of rare palms at these auctions, and usually some great deals. More details are on the PSSC webpage

IPS Biennial attendees and all members of the South Florida Palm Society are invited to a reception and tour of Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden on Friday, September 29th, 2006, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the FTBG Jean Ellen Sheehan Visitors Center ballroom. The reception will begin at 5 pm with refreshments provided by the South Florida Palm Society and a brief welcoming address from FTBG Palm Conservation Program staff, followed by a narrated tram tour from 6 to 7 pm of Fairchild’s world famous palm collection. John Dowe, Australian expert on Livistona, will offer three presentations at Indian River Community College (IRCC) in Fort Pierce on Saturday, August 26 and Sunday, August 27. His appearance is sponsored by Central Florida Palm & Cycad Society, Heathcote Botanical Gardens, and the Lifelong Learning Institute of IRCC. The Palm Society of Southern California will hold its July meeting in Los Angeles county on Saturday July 15 starting at 11:00AM. The meeting will take place at the home of Drew Zager in the Holmby Hills (location of Drew's home). Parking will only be allowed on the west side of Mapleton Drive. After touring the garden, we will have a potluck lunch starting at noon, with the PSSC providing a main dish of chicken. The meeting will start at 1:15, with an auction to follow. More information about the meeting will be available on the PSSC website in the next few days at PSSC meetings. Also, you don't have to be a member of the PSSC to attend!
