Hello, everyone: The PSSC's July 16, 2022 PSSC meeting is going to be in the Point Loma section of San Diego at two gardens which are only a few minutes apart. There will be a PSSC Board meeting at the first garden, followed by a potluck lunch, auction and raffle at the second garden. Most importantly, the ocean is nearby, so you can take a break from that torrid inland heat and enjoy a palmy day near the beach. GARDEN NUMBER ONE: Home and garden of Burt Repine at 4575 Orchard, San Diego 92107. A garden filled with rare palms, including Roystoneas, Archontophoenix, etc. On a hillside with an incomparable view of the ocean. GARDEN NUMBER TWO: Home of…

Dear Palm Lovers: We at the PSSC are enormously pleased to announce that we will be holding our Saturday, June 18, 2022, PSSC meeting at the homes and gardens of John Boyer at 21561 Archer Circle, and Guy Young at 21551 Archer Circle, in Huntington Beach, CA 92646. We have visited both of these gardens in the past, and they are better than ever. Both John and Guy have engaged in remodels of their homes and gardens. You'll note the changes and love the things they kept, we promise! One thing they kept was their friendship gate in the backyard for easy access to each garden from the other. If that's not friendship, what is? John Boyer removed …

TWO GARDENS, SIDE BY SIDE RARE SPECIES, MATURE TREES - PLANT AUCTION AND RAFFLE GARDEN #1 THE QUA GARDEN 5328 BRAGG ST., SAN DIEGO, CA 92122 Bret and Linda Qua purchased their home in early 2002. Within a year they had begun work on installing a pool and working on hardscape and landscaping, of course centered around their love of palms. Bret has attempted to create a somewhat wild looking, only marginally manicured garden with palms that appeal to him. As such, there are a combination of both common and somewhat rarer palms. Three sizable Washingtonia that came with the house still surround the spa, while other less common species abound such as Roystonea, Burretio…

The Northern California Palm Society will be meeting on August 29th at the garden of Keith and Caroline Jaeger in San Rafael. They have been working on their garden for the past dozen or so years with plantings being added up to the present. The garden is essentially frost-free, so there is an extensive collection from New Caledonia - Burretiokentia, Cyphophoenix, Kentiopsis, and Chambeyronia. Others include less cold tolerant species such as Syagrus, Chamaedorea, Ravenea, Ceroxylon (unfortunately not trunking yet) and Dypsis. The palms are complemented by various subtropical and cloud forest plants as well as orchids. For those that have not been to a meeting befo…
