This year I have heared the first time about a Butia compacta. Is there anyone, who has some informations or pictures about this plant.

I know its a local "invention",  Steve in So Cal has one I think.., wait maybe thats Keith Huber I'm thinking of. Also, the nursery only sells them on as 15 gal plants.

Zone 10a at best after 2007 AND 2013, on SW facing hill, 1 1/2 miles from coast in Oceanside, CA. 30-98 degrees, and 45-80deg. about 95% of the time.

I've received some seeds...named not only 'compacta' but 'compacta nana'.

Edith Bergstrom has several Butia compactas growing in her garden in Atherton CA. They grow very semetrically and are about half the size of a normal Butia. They are really very nice and would be suited for a smaller garden. So far none of her's have produced viable seeds. Our last PS meeting was held at Edith's. Maybe someone will post some pictures of them as I know cameras were flashing everywhere.
