Today I drove to see George in Fallbrook to pickup two Foxy Lady Palms~Wodveitchia. The trip was a 4 hour round trip, but was worth it! I picked up a 1ga and a 7ga;additionally, I bought two C. Hookerii he had on sale.

Nice purchases palmlover!

We just call the Foxtail hybrids 'Foxy Lady' over here, and now do so in memory of the late Rich Trapnell who produced the first examples of this palm and also gave them the name.

Hopefully you will get many years of pleasure from yours.

Daryl

Very nice. One of the best palms we can grow around here. Get them in the ground ASAP and they will be huge in no time. My foxy lady was about the size of your 7 gallon when I planted it and it was trunking after one year.

Bags,

Yours was very nice when I came over. Wow it seems like a fast grower. Did you take time acclimating it to the sun or did it take the sun well from the begining. It was under a shade tent but I'm going to give it Costal sun.

Tom,

Mine was outdoor grown so it had no problems with acclimation. Yours does not look too stretched out so I would guess it was getting some good sun exposure and should acclimate well. I would just be careful not to burn it too bad going into winter. Most would probably tell you to wait till spring to plant, but I would put it in the ground. You could probably plant it with a shade tent for a month or so and after that they do best with full sun on the coast. Good luck.

Tom - mine you saw went in the ground in November and saw no burn at all.

Nice specimens. I'm trying one up here in one of the warmest spots in my garden during the winter. Hope I have good luck because I think this is one of the finest looking palms around.

Just for a little perspective on how fast these are here is mine when I planted it in Feb of 2009. It looks more stretched than your plantaaronspalms2009057.jpg

Here it is in 2010. You can't really tell from the pics but it has a ring of trunk already.

Aaron,

Your Foxy Lady really took off! I remember seeing it and how nice she looked. How often do you water and fertilize?

Worth the trip indeed. Congrats

Thanks Tom. I water twice a week on drip during the hottest months and fertilize 3-4 times a year with Palm Plus

I didn't have to travel to get mine, but poor Foxy Lady clocked up 5200 klms to get me. I keep her in a big pot because I dont want to plant her in the wrong spot...well thats my excuse for not digging big holes. You will be glad you made the effort to get yours.

Shes planted over the weekend! Hard to see since my D.Pembana leaf is hanging over and giving it some canopy.
