  1. -Did you know PalmTalk now supports the uploading of multiple photos? You can choose 4 at a time to upload. (I may change that to 5) When posting a photo look for "Help with attaching files" Try our advanced uploader which supports multiple file uploading (modern browser required)" Then proceed and look for "Enable Flash Uploader." Check it and you will then be able to choose multiple files to be uploaded all at once. -Did you know there appears to be an option for a "skin" that makes using the Forum from mobile devices easier and faster. A PalmTalk Lite, so to speak. Has anyone tried PT from an mobile device yet? I'm not sure if it is activated. -Did you know multiple members can now join in your PMs, since they now take the form of a regular thread? -Did you know clicking on the PT logo takes you to the Main Page? -Did you know you can get rid of the "new" column on the right (on the Main Page) by clicking on the tiny "x" at the top of the column? If you want it back, look for the very tiny little "gizmo" in approximately the same place. If you find any more tips & tricks, let us know. I'll do the same.

  2. I feel fortunate my low temps this month in South Palm Beach County only got down 34F. I wasn't suprised at the damage to my Arecas & Prichardias, but all my Licuala grandis just wimped out completely. All 3 are in protected areas, 2 are even over my pool, which I thought would be good for at least a degree or two bump! I have all kinds of Licualas, none had any damage at all. If they croak, I'll probably replace them with peltatas. Anyone elses fair any better. What's the lowest temperature a grandis will tolerate without self destructing? Randy

  3. Terry, Sorry for a little levity, but I feel disoriented or odd most of the time, with or without low pressure. Also this is a test using an attachment for the first time with the new format. Takes a little getting used to.

  4. Probably the biggest factor is the conditions in their native habitat. The coconut in its native habitat(s) didn't have to deal with frost. So it didn't adapt to it. Butias, however, come from higher altitudes - regions where they experience more cold, so they had to adapt or they wouldn't survive. There are exceptions, so there's probably more to it than that. Yes, the palm must evolve over time to cope with the cold or die. But, what makes it hardier? Yes, it is from somewhere where it experiences cold, but what biological factors make it able to cope with the cold?
