  1. Yes Ron, "Stumpheads" are still a reference and valid category for someone who has been banned. Thankfully no one has needed to be banned or even warned in quite some time. The Warn Status you see is only visible to you and is a way for you to see if you are on your way to being a Stumphead. There are very few people who have anything more than zero. First warning is 33%, second warning is 66%, and third warning is Stumphead Land. But in all likely hood, you will even receive a verbal warning before the first official one. The Reputation feature is something that we have not decided whether to keep or not. I just left it running because it was the default when we upgraded.

  3. Can you be so kind as to explain the warn status under my profile and also the user rating and reputation. I looked thru the help section and I'm still unclear how this works. Thanks in advance Don

  4. Looking at the Accuweather extended forecast through 3/25 for our area, I only see overnight lows in the 60's and upper 50's, the best lows you could ask for. No 30's & 40's. Since the forecast goes almost out to the end of March, this would appear to be the long-awaited end of the dark days of winter. Finally. We are soon to return to Daylight Savings Time, the wonderful long afternoons when we have more daylight in which to tend our battered gardens. The weekend promises perfect weather in which to work on outdoor projects. A new beginning. Like others, I've lost so much in the garden that I'll be starting over pretty much from scratch. Although it's wrenching to lose some of the cherished favorites, it's time to balance that against the opportunity to plan a better layout - the last one sucked - and look forward to new favorites. You won the last round, Old Man Winter - but you WON'T win the next one! On a personal note: I just got okayed to start walking a bit for the 1st time in 2 months. It's pretty difficult, but it means that FINALLY I can work in the yard this weekend. Just a little but it's a start.

  5. David, I feel your pain. Our beloved Duke (German Shepard) passed about 3 years ago. (2 weeks before Christmas) He had Anal Cancer. But my father always told me when one dog die's give another a chance to live. So 2 days before Christmas we went to the pound and rescued a dog (Christy). Don't let anyone tell you it's just a dog for they are much more then that. As long as we have memories they truly never die. All the best Ellis

  6. Here is a pic of 1 of 3 S.tamaulipas babys I am now growing. I have high hopes for these palms and I know they will be able to withstand the future freezes in my area.

  7. I find GP II to be an amazing book. I surely use wikipedia/wiktionary a lot when reading it. And still parts of it I don't understand. Every couple of weeks there comes a legitimate reason to open it. Found it particularly useful with seed genus identifications

  10. Steve, I clean Syagrus seeds with a wire brush on a long shank attached to an electric drill. I spin the brush in a bucket of water and seeds. Messy and takes a few go-rounds but not as long as hand cleaning.

  12. Reputation By giving members the ability to rank an individual post up or down your community becomes more dynamic, self-moderates, and encourages quality contributions. Configurable by the administrator, a member can click "+" or "-" on a post to give or subtract a point. Once a certain threshold has been reached that post can be automatically hidden. Points are accumulated for a particular member giving them an overall reputation rating as well. Warn System From the new warn system, moderators can make private notes about a member, contact the member, and also take action on their account. Actions may include suspending their ability to post, requiring all the posts to be previewed, or completely banning a member from accessing the community. Moderators can choose permanent or time-based actions. User rating doesn't appear to be documented. I see it as recognition of a forum member's overall contribution to the community, as recognised by other members. Hope that helps.

  13. For what kind of person is Genere Palmarum II useful? It's a pretty big chunk of money... Is the writing understandable to someone who doesn't have a degree in biology, or is it perhaps too technical?

  14. FREE: I have a 25-year-old pygmy date palm (Phoenix roebelenii) that has begun to crest into multiple heads. The tree is about 12 ft. tall and is in the ground in Westwood / West Los Angeles, California. It is very accessible and will be easy for you to dig out. If you are interested in this free novelty, please contact David Leaser on my cell phone at 310-621-2319.
