  1. I saw these groupings of Sabal palmetto in McIntosh,FL, just south of Gainesville. A group of old and tall specimens and on the same property, a group of good sized S. palmetto all still holding the boots and these old S. palmetto are growing on the Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings homestead at nearby Cross Creek

  2. Had a terrific visit with Stephen and family, wanderanwills, who lives north of Sydney, last weekend, we went for a sight seeing tour, came around a corner, and there they were, on the side of the road. Seeding Livistona australis, of course we had to stop and get some. The seeds were layered on the ground between tree bark and leaf litter up to 12cm deep (4-5inch's For the USA members). We found seed on the top of the mulch, then 2 cm below, then more further down between the layer of forest debris. Stephen took these pictures, unfortunately did not have my camera with me, Stephen was really there First thing found a fake eyeball, somebody is always watching regards Colin

  3. Betel nut contains arecoline. Signs of Areca catechu toxicity include ataxia, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, tachycardia and hypertension. Arecoline was used in early veterinary deworming medications to induce intestinal motility and expelling of any intestinal parasites. In looking at the picture, of even more concern to me is the size on the nut - just right for swallowing and getting lodged in the intestinal track (like golf balls, corn cobs and plastic toys). gmp
