Sudden weather here in So Cal.

BS Man about Palms

Some of you may not recognise this, not having been here and all.....

But we got some sudden "weather" here to day that no forecaster thought would come. (actually, now as I'm typing this, I remember many folks had said rain on Thurs as of last weekend, but all had revised to say it wasn't gonna happen.

Here is a view off the roof of my second floor to the coast...

snowhouse004.jpg

Zone 10a at best after 2007 AND 2013, on SW facing hill, 1 1/2 miles from coast in Oceanside, CA. 30-98 degrees, and 45-80deg. about 95% of the time.

But the REAL amazing thing was looking east this afternoon!

snowhouse006.jpg

This is the next CLOSER AND LOWER mountain range than Terry posted from a storm earlier this year. (I'm sure he'll get some good shots from this)

I suspect the snow level was down to 2000 feet, haven't heard yet.

Ha-ha. I'm glad it's you guys and not us. Low 80's for today, no rain because the front that just pushed through yesterday dumped 4 1/2" of rain over two days. But hey, the views you have are great, I know the vantage point from high up where your standing there Bill, like if I was "there" myself. :D

It appears it was a complete suprise to every forecaster out here. It also seems to have just "appeared" over mostly only San Diego county for most all of yesterday.  For the first time in ..like.."ever", a spot in San Diego county had "highest snowfall in a day" for the nation. Laguna pass that Highway 8 passes thru on its way to southern Arizona, got 9" of snow yesterday!!!!  It was and is till closed.  Most all of the "mountain roads are currently closed. And snowfall was officially down to 1500 feet.

At least it appears as if my "cold pit" didn't frost.  Too much water?  The weeds will be huge this year.

With zoom. The building is the Home Depot on Hwy 76.

The morning lighting is real glaring, but by the time the light gets better, the snow will melt.

Anywhere there was standing water from the rain, it was frozen this morning. My sensor read 35F. Whatever.

I forgot Bill, are those going in the ground this year ? Any of the big Dypsis would be screaming for planting I'd say.

It is a lovely view too, something special. Got any conifers happening ?

Charles....  I keep debating what to do with it. It has a Ford 1600 engine in it.  As my first car was an MGA (not that one) I'm a little attached.

Wal-  In all reality, it will probably be next year before I put "in the ground"  :)  :(

I should also note, you can see the thermometer in the foreground and that is my "cold zone". Generally about  1-2F colder than up front.

In the first photo, that's Mt. San Jacinto, roughly 80 miles away. The second photo is the San Gorgonio massif, about 100 miles north. Having 11,000 ft mountains that I can see from my roof... priceless.
