Mottled palms - how many varieties are there?

I really like the mottling patterns on palm fronds - pretty attractive to human eyes but whats the logic behind the adaptation - purely camouflage against predators or are there other reasons?

More importantly- how many Genera and species exhibit mottling patterns?

Even more important-- post your pictures!!  Its fun to see all these mottled palms in just one thread!!!!

Here is a Licuala Mattanensis var. Mapu

A lot of pinangas also have mottling.  But I think for most they lose the mottling as the palm grows older.  Also the patterns are more intense when the leaves are newly opened and gradually fade.
