I got this a little while back and I am amazed at what it's supposed to be.  I'll say what I was told it is, later.  I'd like guesses, please.

First, proof that its mine.      (please note the winter weeds in the pot.)

Nope, that was provided by a cold southern California winter......

Jeff, when you see this and a Dictyosperma next to each other, they don't look the same.

Bill,

I was thinking Dictyosperma as well, it looks a lot like my Dictyosperma rubrum.  BUT, my D rubrum had much redder petiole edges and the leaves were not crinkled at the petiole like that.  So despite the similarity, I not really that certain it's a Dictyosperma.  No other guesses though.

I had a young Dictyosperma album (sp) w/red petioles and thought it might be Dictyosperma rubrum.  But as it aged they new ones were all green.

I vote for Dictyosperma also.

I had a similar palm that was a mystery I was given over 1 1/2 years ago, the past owner didn't know what it was either....BUT, it was trying to clump. (Last winter killed it... :( )

I tried to describe it to Ron Lawyer at one time, I think I even showed him the old one. He said it sounded like what he told me had as a "red petiole Prestoea" he only had one or two, so I got one.  When you see it in person, it IS very different looking.

The old one stumped the regulars at Jungle Music too.  I'll try to find a pic of the old one.

Anyone seen or know of a "red petiole Prestoea" ? ???     Shon spends HOURS at JM weekly, never seen one, thats why he wants it!

Gosh, it must be just some plain ole' palm. I should probably just throw it in the mulcher then, huh?

Bill, I was thinking how to tell if this is indeed a "red petiole Prestoea". Here is what you do. Place it out in full SoCal sun for a few days. If it burns up, yep, it was a red petiole Prestoea. If it does not, then you have yourself a different palm. Give it a shot.

Bill,

I have never seen a red stem Prestoea before, but this looks similar or maybe close to this red stem Calyptronoma we saw down in the Domican Repulic. I can't remember the specie name.

Bill,

You mentioned "stumped the boys at Jungle Music", but I don't ever remember you're showing this palm to me.  Was the boss out of town???  I don't think it's a Dictyosperma.  It's probably on it's seventh leaf at least, and we'd spot a Dictyosperma by that point.  If it's a Prestoea, it's not a montana.  Sometimes Carpinteria have some red in the stem, but it doesn't appear to be that either.  Truck it on over and let's get a closer look.  That will give Shon a chance to nab it.
