The South Coast Botanic Garden is a must see 87 acre garden jewel. Tucked away in the southwest corner of LA County on the Palos Verdes Peninsula, this unassuming garden grows out of what once was an LA County Landfill and now bustles with vegetation

In 1956 LA County purchased what used to be a diatomaceous earth pit mine and turned it into a much need landfill. In less then 6 years the landfill was filling up and in 1961, a group of concerned locals with a horticultural visions convinced LA County officials to convert the landfill in the a public garden.

Today this 87 acre coastal garden is home to a vast array of plant collections including a mature collection of palms. The garden is jointly operated by Los Angeles County Parks and Recreation and the South Coast Botanic Garden who has been with the Garden since day one.

South Coast Botanic Garden is truly a hidden treasure and a must see for palm and garden enthusiasts. It is located at 26300 Crenshaw Blvd, Palos Verdes Pennisula 90274 (310-544-1948) www.southcoastbotanicgarden.org
