Anyone growing this?  Looks pretty "hot" in some internet pictures.  I know you Big Island guys must have some or lots.

Steve, I've got one growing here. It made it through our record winter without any cold spots etc It is quite slow for me though. You should have no problem with it as long as you give it plenty of water. They are very attractive with purple colouration, and shiny green leaves that look more like Areca spp rather than Pinanga. They are a bit touchy though.

Yep! Great looking palm!

(Edit - didn't notice until just now that an old brown frond from some taller palm had fallen on these palms...). Have to take another shot!)

OK, here's another shot. Not much fruit this time, though. :(

Bo,

I like your 'real time' photos. That camera has a good flash too!

Very, very slow. So slow that I wouldn't have planted it had I known this.

Wow, magnificent, mine are only 6 inches. Bo, thanks for the photos, as I have something to look forward to!

How long until they get some color? I have 4 in 3 gallon pots so I'm sure it is still to early for me to see anything.

I swear you could die some clothes with the amount of purple you get off of the fruit when cleaning the seeds.

I have kept mine in a pot. Seems to be a reasonable grower for me. I need to pot this one up.

Thanks for your comments! Tom, if they're in 3G pots, and assuming they're nice size 3G plants, my guess is that you can expect them to show some color fairly soon. Maybe within the next 12-18 months. Difficult to say without a photo, though! :)

Steve,

Give it shade and plenty of water and I'm sure it'll be much larger by the end of the year. Looks like it's a little bit stretched right now, so the next frond or two may be slightly shorter.

Thanks Bo,  It's been growing in the Florabunda green house until I bought it in Jan.  Then it was in mine.  It's in the ground now as you can see.
