We had a thread on the old forum with night pics, so let's see what you have! I'm going to start off with a few that I took just a little while ago.

Before I do that, I'd like to mention that I added a few photos in the 'Rainfall in Leilani Estates' thread (Weather) taken during a very heavy downpour this afternoon. For those of you who normally wouldn't look there....

Anyway, here's a close-up of a Pinanga philippinensis

And finally a mystery palm. I think this is a Dypsis, but I'm not even sure of that. Any suggestions or ideas are welcome!

Night time is often the right time, since you can hit your subject with extra light and make it jump out against what might otherwise be a distracting background of nearby palms.

Bo,

Your D.saintelucei has been planted for 4 1/2 years.Ummm, seems small for growing overthere with your fast growth that you have. I wonder if this will always be somewhat slow.

Ryan,

Those pictures you posted were awesome! Extreamly nice, you must have a really good camera and lens. Can you post more, maybe at another fellow palm collector's house near you?

Eight small (10 watt) computer-controlled red-green-blue LED floodlights at Heathcote Botanical Gardens in Fort Pierce, Florida.  This view was opened up by the death of a small tree.  The lights look somewhat dimmer in person (leave it to the camera to try to make things bright) and this area will serve as quiet background for a "pond" of blue lights and a locally-built fountain of lights, to be installed after the pre-Thanksgiving plant sale.

The palm with the larger fronds is johannesteijsmannia altifrons (unless it has a a long trunk, then it might be johannesteijsmannia perakensis).

There is one similar to it on the left, just poking into the picture, but has silver underside; that would be Johannesteijsmannia magnifica.

The smaller palm bottom center with the mottled fronds is Licuala mattanensis var. mapu.

All very nice. - gmp

Palms and quite a bit else.  More photos from Heathcote Botanical Gardens, in sequence on the same path with the lights at different phases in their color program.  In the first, you can see the green patch of philodendrons that's so prominent in the second (cultivar 'Burle Marx').  In the second, a nice Flame Thrower at center rear is bright green.

Dear Friends,

This is a very interesting topic and palms seem to look their best during night under moonlight or under special lighting. And i came across a dimmable lighting system helpful for both still and video photography. So thought of sharing those details with you all.
