You and me both. I have been after one for a long time. I think it should be easier finding one there than here.

Don't complain. At least you can grow it if you find it. I have to wait for you to find it, grow it, take a picture of it, and appreciate it, all the while knowing I can never have it.

If global warming means I can grow Cocos Nucifera, then bring it on....

I had been looking hard for six months or so. Contacted Burt and he lost everything except the one already in the ground. I gave up and had one shipped from Florida.

Len, I used to grow this one. There are some nice trees on the job I am presently working on. Planted about 15 years ago, by me.

Has anyone tried to grow it from seeds? Apparently, there is a tree in George Brown Botanical garden, but I haven't tried to find it yet. The botanical garden is not the easiest place to find anything  , especially when you have 2 screaming and bored kids.

Are they easy to germinate?

They are easy to grow from seed. They grow very fast too, you can it have several feet tall in a couple years.

Len--

Easy and fast from seed. You could get them from seed to 15gal size in two years, no problem. If you want a (relatively) local seed source, there are (hopefully) some large ones in front of SD Sports Arena on Sports Arena Blvd, accessible from the sidewalk.

Thanks Ken. But I need to shave off some years as I need to get them bigger for quicker canopy.

Where have you been? I was in FL a few weeks ago and hit Jesse Durko's per your suggestion. Killer stuff - classic dude. Brought back some nice 1 gallon plants.

Bummer I missed you, but glad you made it to Jesse's. Did you go down to Rob Bobson's or Dolores' place too? Did you drive stuff back to CA?

I just got back from two weeks in Fresno. Been laying pretty low lately everywhere--made too many promises, got too much to do, not enough $$$ coming in, etc. Got to get focused, get work done, meet a new rich girlfriend, and/or win the Lotto soon...

Actually I'll defend Len a bit here. He has wider "plant interests" than a lot of folks in the IPS, myself included...

LJG,

I'm a landscape architect in Carlsbad, CA trying to find 29 Ecualyptus deglupta. The source we thought we had in Florida doesn't have that many. Do you know of a source that could deliver trees in relatively good shape to a contractor here? I'm looking for a plant that arrives here measuring at least 5 ft. tall. Thanks for your help.

I bought one on eBay last summer from a grower inn Fl. Was $12.50 including shipping, was less then pencil thin and 1 ft high. It is now easily over 15 ft tall, a rocket ship of a tree.

Hi, you could try the guys at Australian seed, I got some there some time back but I don't know if they have any left.

You will find thier web site at  www.australianseed.com

Best of luck mine have really taken off

Greg,

I am actually going to order from here:

http://eucalyptusdeglupta.com/terms.htm

These are the biggest I could fine and not get ripped off!

I know one thing, unless there is some hidden backyard grower or small mom/pop nursery in San Diego that has some, I am not sure you will find them unless you grow from seed or order online.

Just ordered mine from the link len posted above. I'll let you know how it goes. The hole is dug, moist and humusy, gopher cage check, awaiting plant arrival! I'm putting it in the bottom of the canyon so it can tap into as much ground water as it can. It's a zone 9b down there though, so I hope I can get it through this first winter without killing it.

Ari , John Rassup told me the seedlings he has of this will be ready in a few weeks . I will try and do a deal with him for several as I know a few people who want them . Will have to check the large one along the beach for seeds again .

Thanks Michael. Or if you can get seeds, that would be good. I am getting better at them.. :).

Apparently there is a tree at the Botanical garden, but I couldn't find it. I have to ask Monty, I think.... Sharon would know where it is.

They were not mine - only brought in by me. They have already been distributed to numerous people on this forum. Maybe they will post pictures. Some were bigger for a little more, some were smaller for less. Most a little stretched. But it sure beats paying $200 for a 1 foot tall plant which I was offered once!!

Here's one I planted less than a month ago I got from Len. It was $40 and in a 3g pot. The fence behind it is 6ft. Even though it is stretched I planted it in full sun and it hasn't burned a bit.
