I have a small grafted yellow Royal Poinciana. Its only about 3 feet tall. Here's a couple of photos of the yellow form and there is even an orange-ish colored variety.

Bubba, this look similar to a plant I have, that is sold as Paraguay Nightshade (Lycianthes rantonnei.) Freezes to the ground here in winter, but comes back larger every year.

I read that Miami has more Royal Poinciana's than the entire Country of Madagascar.Although they are not native, they are now freely reproducing everywhere.

Our poinciana display was cut short this year by heavy rains.I have never seen the yellow cultivar. Can that be grown from seed as well?

El Oasis - beach garden, distinct wet/dry season ,year round 20-38c

Las Heliconias - jungle garden ,800m elevation,150+ inches rainfall, year round 15-28c

Those photos are not of my tree. I got a grafted yellow from some guy in PR. Its still small and not near flowering size.

The photos are from google.

Epicure,Thank you for the ID on the Cassia fistula.I have seen them around but did know what they were.I am going to research them more thoroughly.Same with that Paraguay Nightshade and Thank you also ,Keith.Cagary,Are you growing those beautiful yellow varieties or are they just located in PR?

The more I look at that photo, the more I am convinced that I may be wrong on my ID.

Eric in Orlando, where are you? This one seems right up your alley.

The Acalypha is Acalypha hispaniolae.

Post #2 Keith was close, same family. The plant is a Brazilian Potato Tree (Solanum wrightii)

Post #5 Pic 1 is Pachystachys lutea with Angle Wing (maybe dragon wing) Begonia behind it (Great plant by the way).

Post #13 looks like Purple Allamanda

All of our Shower Trees are blooming. I'll try to come up with some photos.

I have the yellow poinciana (sp) and I don't believe it produces from seed.

Our orange poincianas are looking fine, thanks to a mini-drought that (we all hope) will end tomorrow.

Len, Thank you for your learned analysis.I like the sound of "Brazilian Potato Tree".

Steve,Please post any Showers if possible and it would be great to see one of those Yellows or even a simple Royal.Thank you in advance

Dave,You got any Cassia fistula's up there in Weirdo? Why does everybody down here call it that?Jealous.

I have some seedlings from a pod from a yellow Poinciana, but they are small & I have no idea what the flowers will be. My yellow is grafted. I have seen yellow Poinciana seeds on ebay.

I believe all Showers are grafted to be sure you get what you want.

I'm growing a yellow graft here in southern CA that I got from some guy in PR. Its only about 3 feet tall and its still in a pot.

You might get lucky and get a yellow flowering royal poinciana from seed, but its such a looong wait and your chances are so small that I would try to get a graft. I don't know how fast you could get one from PR to Australia, but a small grafted tree should be able to survive the flight. Now would it survive the agricultual inspection? I don't know?

I believe I got my yellow graft from an ebay seller named "billy143pr". You could ask him if he has any more. The plant arrived quickly and the graft was well done.
