Thr variegated Royal is on the left and the golden adonidia on the right - one of which is pushing a new leaf. They come out a really bright canary yellow.

Close ups of the leaflets and crownshafts on the variegated royal. Teh variehation is light green on dark green which means tha it should do better with regard to burning-- the downside is that as a big palm-the variegation will probably be unnoticable when it becomes really huge. I hope that the variegation becomed more enhancedas it matures-- fingers crossed

Copernicia Baileyana is growing nicely too - its the green one in the upper middle of the picture. The blue/silver palm in the front is a Nannorhops richtiana.

THis copernicia has sped up in growth but overall I still think its is a slow grower.

I guess the nest step is to add the stuff I planted since then.

Thats what I'm seeing after 2 years in the ground here, Gene. Looks great!

Lexisdad -- thanks. I take our climate for granted and often dislike the heat and humidity but it does have its good points

Bs man about palms- I hope this inspires you to plant more seedlings in the ground

Now for some palms that I had planted since then:

Licuala Sumawongii (elegans) I noticed that it has significantly produced leaves much faster since I placed it in the ground. She also gets a lot more sun than before and can take the frull summer sun with no problems. All teh while I thought that this was sun sensetive.

Pious palms- thanks bill. I was particularly surprised by the size difference of the V splendidias and the Kerriodoxa elegans after 1 year.

THese are Areca ipot seedlings. The smaller one is a replcement for a seedling that died-- couldn't take the summer sun and the leaves were badly durned and then just croaked. The bigger one at the back has better shade overhead and is doing fine. What a difference a few inches make

THese are areca Ipots that I bought as balled out palms. They don't transplant very well though. Quite a few did not make it. One of them started with and inflorescence but just did not push through.

I am hoping that these produce seeds soon coz an Areca ipot without a cluster of seeds just doedsn't look right.

THe crownshat of the other one has a bulge-- hopefully it has a more developed infloricense under there.

I am beat-- more tomorrow

It is Phoenicophorium borsigianum. Very nice palms.... Wow, your garden has come a long way... I wish I had the protection that you have. Some of mine are doing REALLY well last wet season, and some didn't make it!! I guess that is just the way it is.... Lots to learn still. Besides, last dry wasn't very forgiving for some (mites & bugs attack..), so hopefully this dry is a bit milder.

Regards, Ari :)

Ari- the weather over here has been very weird too. The dry season (or summer) was pretty short this year. Probably mid late february till mid-april only. We have been starting to get showers and storms prematurely-- not long and extended periods like the monsoons but short and frequent. It would rain and be overcast for a couple of days then a day of sunshine and then rain again.

At this point these aren't even monsoon conditions. Global warming at work I guess.

In any case I think the palms are loving it and it sure saves on watering them.

Give us an update on your garden too-- you have a much bigger yard.

I Just wanted to add this seedling to this thread so we don't forget to check out its progress for next year.

THis is suppose to be a giant-- Attalea Butyracea

It was long overdue to get out of its 1 gallon pot. I planted it in a spot where a really really really huge ficus was growing. We had to chop the ficus down because its roots were damaging the house. All the ash you see there is from the bon fires that we do on the spot to hopefully kill of the ficus. All the ashe should give this attalea a nutritious start
