Can anyone tell me what disease or problem I'm having with my Fuji Coconut Palm is? There is a white fungus looking stuff and growth has slowed or is non existent.

Thanks

Mark

Hey Mark, It's kinda hard to make out what you've got going on there... pics are tiny! Kinda looks like mealy bug if I had to take a stab at it...

Yeah, the pics are on the tiny side. But if its white and "cotton candy" looking, figure its mealybug. Not cute, real annoying. Malathion works wonders.

Zone 10a at best after 2007 AND 2013, on SW facing hill, 1 1/2 miles from coast in Oceanside, CA. 30-98 degrees, and 45-80deg. about 95% of the time.

I do some experiments and learning in my garden with palms so you don't have to experience the pain! Look at my old threads to find various observations and tips!

Here's a couple of better pictures of my Fuji Coconut Palm disease. Any ideas? Still look like mealy bugs?

Thanks!

That looks like mealy bug to me. It's an insect that covers itself in a waxy/cottony substance. Unfortunately this repells water and so spray on insecticides sometimes have difficulty killing them. If malthion fails I've found an insecticide containing imidicloprid works well. It is systemic and so gets into the sap and poisons the bugs that way. It worked a treat clearing scale insects off cycads that nothing else seemed to get rid of.
