Trithrinax brasiliensis

I always like to see folks' "then and now" palm photos.  It gives me a much better idea of how fast they grow.

Today I was out taking garden photos and I decided to post comparative photos of a Trithrinax brasiliensis.  The first photo was shot in August 2003 when Matt in SD came to pay me a visit.  The palm was planted shortly thereafter.

The second photo was taken today.  I used my wife's size 7 white slipper for scale since I don't have red tennis shoes.  The palms gets full sun and lots of water.

Fred, looks like it's doubled in size, at least, in the three years.  Your picture dosen't do this palm justice....no pictures do really.  Not until I saw a large one up close did I really appreciate this species.  They are tough too!  I think they need to shoot a kung fu movie where someone gets impaled by being shoved into a Trithrinax brasiliensis trunk....that's just what I think when I see it.

Here's a pic of mine.  The "Consternation Kid" statue is about 3 feet (1 m) tall.  It's the fan-leaved palm over to the left.
