This Bismarkia nobilis resides at my daughter's place. I was there today and noticed how reddish the petioles are. How are others ?

Wal,

That is more than usual red for a Bizzy. I think your daughter's palm will grow up and become very silver. Either that, or she's got something in the water there that we don't know about. :)

I´m intrigued by the colouration of this palm species, as this is my first time growing B. nobilis. I have a "silo" of around 100 bizzies popping up at the moment, with the most vibrant orange and red tips. In some cases the colour spreads down the emerging shoot and then fades when the leaf starts to form and turn silver.

You sure its not a Latania? Also, interesting its on the nearly dead leaves only..... like the changing of the aspens.

Zone 10a at best after 2007 AND 2013, on SW facing hill, 1 1/2 miles from coast in Oceanside, CA. 30-98 degrees, and 45-80deg. about 95% of the time.

I do some experiments and learning in my garden with palms so you don't have to experience the pain! Look at my old threads to find various observations and tips!

Wal, that is exactly the color I look for when choosing young palms to use here; some have it some don't, and some are in between. Kept in full sun that palm of hers is going to be stunning (not that it isn't now)... just curious is it kind of cold or cool temp-wise when that shot was taken?
