My biggest P. cocoides the year before it died due to extreem cold weather(-6C or more for many days in a row...I had it protected in a diy unheated greenhouse but the temprature surely equalized and it was many days and nights...I didnt expected it to die though,i would have brought it in otherwise... :( )

Syagrus romanzoffiana

DSC02642a.jpg

This Syagrus have been putting defective fronds all the time till now...Defects included a big white spot(on emergance) on the middle of the leaf which became necrotic leaving a big hole to the leaf, leaf with necrotic, white at first, tip, spear falling due to white necrotic tissue in the middle of the developing leaf, spear that could not open in a particular place and so the leaf opened above and below this poit but at this point the spear didnt opened(You can see that leaf, dead now,at the right side of the plant),spear that couldnt hold her weight, soft and somewhat frizzled, falling from its base(the base was ok developed and its still green and on the palm) and then a frond that was part frizled and that part fell, and the rest ok and its still on the palm, you can see the biggist frond missing a big part of it.All defects started as white and then necrotic tissue i think but dont remember very well about the spear pull, how the tissue was then. The two newer leafs of this palm are perfect, something that it has never done before,i think it has only had 2 or 3 normal leafs in the past over its entire life till now, almost all leafs were defective. Can you think of something causing the defects i mentioned?Has it happend to anyone of you?

2 Washingtonia filifera(or filibusta) from seeds collected by myself on my early days of palm growing.I had 4 but i gave the two bigger ones 2 years ago(they were the same size as the bigger one in the photo,2years ago already,in 2years from seed :) )to be planted to the ground at the offices of an organization. These ones are still that small because i left them potbound too long and grew them were they are(very few hours of full sun, mostly shade) while i grew the others where my Parajubaeas now are,in part day sun(4? hours of hot full sun, maybe more, maybe less).I have them there to provide shelter and shade to my shade loving plants,2 Dicksonia squarrosa tree ferns and 2 Livistona rotundifolia.

Livistona rotundifolia

I bought this one recently at a flower shop, had seen them only twice in the past and liked them but didnt bought them at the time and recently i went searching for them and managed to get a duo.I will split them tomorow as i like my palms planted singly and also because this pot has no drainage holes and the plant sits in standing water with minimal watering from my automatic watering system.

Fresh from the shop, about 20days ago:

I removed those beautyfull large seeds from the pot the same day,as soon i found out that no root was attaching them to the soil but rather a wooden stick.I may try to germinate them as i like the tree they are from(cant remember its name right now...)

Now,under the Washingtonia where they have been growing for 20 or more days now...

And last but not least,my Chamaedorea elegans, one of my favourite palms and my most well cared for as i keep it my room and admire it each day!I grew it from seeds i collected myself from 3 mature Chamaedorea elegans i found growing in a patio at an indent of a building,at its entrance, beautyfull and robust as ever, maybe the best Chamaedorea elegans i have seen! Some of the leaves(the rightmost ones) are somewhat bleached because i was growing it at my windosil where it received 2-3 hours of morning sun and the leaves positioned to receive the most of this sun are the affected ones).Only the newest open leaf is a true shade leaf(as it became too large for my window sill and had to repot it and move it...) and the one that is about to open will also be a shade leaf too so its appearance will become even better than it is!!!

Also can you confirm my id as Chamaedorea elegans?

I took this photo to show you the only problematic leaf it has...This leaf has been problematic from when it was first made and is slowly but steadily declining, especially as its time to go approaches...Does this shows anything bad for the plant or not?No other leaf has shown any kind of damage, not even the slightest brown tipping :)

DSC02639a.jpg

That was it,not many palms yet but i am currently germinating some more

I hope you liked them! :)

Nice pictures Kostas! Be aware of mites on your indoor plants.

Zone 10a at best after 2007 AND 2013, on SW facing hill, 1 1/2 miles from coast in Oceanside, CA. 30-98 degrees, and 45-80deg. about 95% of the time.

Thank you very much all of you for your replys :)

Thanks for the advice BS Man!

I watch out for them!In fact my Chamaedorea got mites last year but it was a piece of cake dealing with them,i just took her out and blew hard on the mites and they fell off...The ones left,i removed with a piece of paper towel, got the Chamaedorea in and they were gone forever  As long as i keep my windows closed, everything is good...But that time i opened them briefly and a big weed that had grown in my patio was full of mites,so no wonder some got in...Needless to say this weed has gone for good

Thank you very much jv :)

Thank you very much Pivi :)

Unfortunately i dont have any palm in the ground yet but i hope to have soon...I mean within a year from now,i need to replace a roof at an old bakery house in my grandparents property which i intend on transforming to a beautyfull house with wooden roof rested between overgrown trees and palm trees, and then i will start planting to the groung with the first ones being my Syagrus and a few Howea fosteriana i will buy when time comes...I dont want anything damaged by the builder/painters...

Just a note to tell you that the Livistona rotundifolia duo was successfully split without much damage to roots and each Livi has its own pot now :)
