Happy -in ground- palm leaves at my house!

Well, many of you know my ratio of "planted" to "potted" (container) palms is extremely lopsided. At the beginning of this year, I had 10 palms in the ground. (After almost 3 years of collecting) I just counted 26 in the ground recently.

Heres some leaves that have opened recently on my "planted" palms. (No, I'm not counting my rooted in pots as planted :P ) Just for Kris, these are "unthumbnailed"

Good old Chambeyronia first up.

My Jubea chiliensis. probably planted close to 3 years. Moved once about a month or so after planted about 2 feet away first. The last frond appears about 4 feet from base to tip. This baby is starting to "Get its groove on".

The infamous "Orange Bizzy" is not as orange, but it does "tint" that way in the winter a bit.

And then a 5 gal Ravenea monompona that was "below the halfway point" in the bucket. This little guy has sat out in my cold low spot, in its little bucket, unprotected, for about the last 2 winters. I think its a tough palm.!

Bill, looking good! You have really inspired me! Well, the trip to Florida did not hurt either, seeing all the great palms in the ground and thriving. Lost ALL, my Flordia pics in a computer crash!!! I can relate to house building affecting planting. I bit the bullet and put some small stuff in the ground. I hope they get going soon. Thanks for sharing the photos.

Thanks Robert. Its been through the constant pushing from a lot of the board members here that caused me to "go over the top" with my planting this year. :floor:

Start at the edges, Bill and work your way in.... that is what I did. Once you finish the house, then you can plant around the house.

Looking good BIll and nice looking Chambey too. It looks like it gets full sun, how does it handle it? What kind of time frame do you have to get them all planted?

Its the front yard. The white wall you see is the front north facing "entrance". The port-o-potty was behind me whilst taking the pic.

Don,

The Chamby has been more or less been in full sun for a couple years, but rarely fertilised and in a 15 gal pot. I think it will do nothing but look better now that its in the ground. :)

And the first stills is just mind blowing...yes though iam not that a fan of weak looking or weak trunking species but there are exceptions..especially when it has lots of leaf or trunk colour.

Bill,

As you know, I'm thrilled to see some of your palms planted now, and hope you will seriously keep planting more. All looks great!

But, what I notice is, your not sure on alot of them on when they were planted. I hope I can stress the fact on how important knowing the dates when you plant a palm. Date, size, container size, any other info. you might want to include. It's almost impossible to remember down the road when palms are planted and what size they were. Believe me when I say, people will always ask you this. And as time goes on, it gets harder and harder to remember. :)

Len, I have seen Bill's Photographic Memory in action. After driving up and down every street in San Clemente, we found the house Bill was looking for. I would have asked for directions.

Gary- It was only 2 streets, if I was driving, I would have drove right to it. :mrlooney: :mrlooney:

Len maybe onto something. I'm not looking at a calender when I plant a palm. Maybe I should pull one out while I'm planting........... :bemused:
