I have a siam ruby that gets abut 1 foot tall and sends up about 3 pups and dies. One of the pups makes it to the smae size and repeats the cycle. The rest dies. Any ideas?

I have found this banana to be very very finicky too.

Mine don;t seem to want to hold on to their leaves for very long. They shed leaves at record speed.

So far none of mine have croaked, but they always impress me like they want to.

I've tried them in a variety of light settings, and also found that they do NOT like to be dry.

Haven't had any trouble yet with 'Siam Ruby' but it does grow slower than other bananas. But I have had trouble with 'Siam Peridot', the all green form. Bot plants grew for awhile then just croaked. And they were next to the 'Siam Ruby'. Neither were bothered by temperatures in the low 30sF last winter so they aren't overly cold sensitive.

Hi tikitki,

You could cut the pups off and plant them apart.

Does the siam grow in a container or in the garden?

Is there enough space in this container? Lets see some pics , so I can get an opinion whats going on.

Eric in Orlando seems to have no problems, beautiful plants!

This cycle took about 3 days so no time to split off the pups.

It is growing in the garden so plenty of room.

It has stopped doing this and is growing fine one pup made it. As soon as this pup kept growing all the others died and no new ones formed. it was like it was using all its energy to make pups and could not sustain life for itself.
