Red "grass" bromeliad with small "pineapple" fruit

This plant was also out on the island so it may be a tropical type. VERY cool looking -- these pictures don't "do it justice" as this row of plants really stood out where they were planted alongside the road adjacent to some cardboard palms.

Thanks a bunch for that ID info.

Just to clarify -- is this one A. comosus var. erectifolia or A. lucidas var. 'Chocolat'? (and are these two significantly different in appearance?)

I'll check with the local bromeliad specialist here in town (Tropi-Flora) to see if they have these varieties -- if you don't already know about Tropi-Flora, they have a very nice collection (Dennis Cathcart collected/discovered many of their plants personally during his numerous international adventures and his "Cargo Report" is always a great read and available free via their mailing list)

Tim,

I have this variety in St. Pete & it needs to be thinned. I'll be in Sarasota for the Tropiflora sale next Saturday. I can either meet you at the sale or leave the plant by Gina's.

Thanks Bren -- that would be great!

I also plan to be at the TF sale on Saturday and will look to meet you there (I'll PM you my mobile # -- as an FYI, I'm going over to Jeff Searle's sale on Friday). Since you're in town, you may want to check out the sale at Camp-Lot-A-Noise orchids since it's not too far from TF (Gina knows where it is but here's their web site which has a map link http://www.clanorchids.com/). And I have no clue why they planned their sale the same day as the TF sale but I plan to go over to TF first (the CLAN sale also features other unique plant vendors similar to those at TF).

Thanks for the tip on the other sale! I'll reply via PM about your other questions. I always have stuff to thin out and trade/sell.
