I meant to say the majority of new and would-be owners have had their seed X-Ray'd. The look on a technician's face when someone asks them to x-ray this giant seed in their hands is a sight to see. Nowadays, I think a MRI would provide a better image. I would like to watch someone walk into an MRI facility, double coconut in hand, and ask the person at the counter "excuse me, could you scan my seed?". That would need to be recorded on hidden video.

Yeah Jeff, but now that we know it is over by the pool house next to the Pit Bulls he might need some extra protection. Us Californians do go on vacation to Florida.

I got a call Saturday from my Brother-in-law ...who got the other seed i received. He'd been away for a few months & upon his return...noticed that his was sitting an inch or so above the soil & had a large root coming out of it.

We checked mine & it too has germinated.

Im amazed and shocked....will see if we can get a pic of the root without disturbing the seed.

His should be planted this week..

I am amazed and jealous as can be. You know I have had mine in the ground for 3 years and nothing !!!!! WOW. But you know what, good for you.

My suggestion is not to do anything to bother them. forget the picture. Its much more important that it survives. You are in a rarefied class now my friend.

Lucky for you! I've got a place to plant one and the climate that it should like but NO SEED! Wish I could find one, just one viable seed somewhere!

Hawaii Island (Big Island), leeward coast, 19 degrees N. latitude, south Kona mauka at approx. 380m (1,250 ft.) and about 1.6 km (1-mile) upslope from ocean.

 

No record of a hurricane passing over this island (yet!).  

Summer maximum rainfall - variable averaging 900-1150mm (35-45") - Perfect drainage on black volcanic rocky soil.  

Nice sunsets!

Congratulations. I have two in the ground that I brought back from Seychelles and its been a little over two years since in the ground and nothing that I can tell. My cousin ( who went with me to Seychelles ) brought a couple himself and one did germinate. The difference between his care of his and my care of mine is water.

He watered his seed practically every day. I recommend that you water the seed...a lot !

BTW...my bro-in-laws is opening its first leaf...even tho planted 2 months later...i think the grow bag tricked it into sending its first leaf up sooner

Add my congrats to the list. And I'm in line for photos.

I seem to recall some years back seeing these seeds available at RPS with a caution that shipping cost a fortune because seeds weighed up to 40lb each. Can't remember what they charged but it was plenty. I really wanted one but had a son to put through college at the time. Besides, they are so slow growing I wouldn't live long enough to enjoy one.
