Hey Tim, thanks for posting the list, it looks to be a great 30th sale. Did the holiday party get moved back to Fairchild? At the last meeting Bill said it was going to be at the Kampong. Just wondering, as the party will be a huge hit where ever it takes place.

Thank you Ryan. The SFPS holiday party was changed and will be held at the Kampong. The Palm Report was corrected just before it was printed so all is well. I'll see you at the sale.

Hey Tim,

Sounds great but I have a 1st-timer's question. Do I have to pay FTG admission fees to attend palm sale?

I don't know about this year Meg... but in the past I have had to present my membership to enter... Others did have to pay fees.

Yes, unless your member of the garden, or I think if you show that your a member of another garden, they will waive the admission to get in.

FTBG does charge an entrance fee unless you have an FTBG membership. It's not too hard to justify the fee when you consider what a world class garden it is. I hope you still make the show Meg.

Meg - and others wanting to save $$ on the FTBG admission,

If you are a member of any other botanical garden (as Jeff mentioned above), check out the American Horticultural Society web site and follow the link to the reciprocal admission program. Fairchild is a member garden. If you have a membership in almost any other Florida garden - Heathcote, Leu, Selby, etc. - you should be able to get into Fairchild at no charge (unless there are restrictions placed on special events - I am not sure of Fairchild's policy on this).

I think that it is well worth keeping up a membership in at least one garden for this benefit alone (not to mention the fact that your membership in a garden contributes to the maintenance and mission of the garden, research and conservation of plants, etc.). If you travel at all, you will have opportunity to get into gardens around the state or even other parts of the country for free.

Looking forward to my 21st Palm Sale!

I even have a blue ribbon from my palm, circa 1991.

I have purchased more palms and made more friends here than anywhere!

Thanks for the bump Rick.

This sale marks our 30th anniversary in the Garden and we will celebrate this long-time relationship with FTBG Saturday night in the Visitor's Center from 6-8pm during the Member's Party. It should be a nice gathering of friends and I hope to see you there Rick.

Today we had great weather here at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Gardens as we got underway for the 30th annual Palm Sale. The crowd was alittle light in numbers due the economy, but there was the usual great selection of palms and cycads. Everything from Calyptrocalyx micholitzii to Coccothrinax borhidiana to Dypsis sp. "Dark Mealy Bug" to the famous Tahina spectabalis. Lots of collectors came in early and had their wish list ready.

Palmarum (Ryan) will do a seperate thread in a few days. Thanks to all that came out.

This was a great sale and the material available was unbelievable. What was available as rare 12 years ago has become not so uncommon in many south florida gardens. There were also many great deals as many vendors were anxious to create room in their shad houses!
