Sounds great. Will some of the vendors be the same as at the biennial Cape Coral plant sale earlier this fall?

My friend went over that saturday, actually a forum member here, looking for mainly crotons, palms, and really anything kool looking. He came back and was extreamly disapointed in the the selection. The plants were very nicely grown, but the selection was not much and no crotons to speak of. He said he would definitely not go back next year, if they even have the sale again.

Dave & I went down to check it out, and did buy a few new plants.

We thought it was a very nice venue and about time that Fort Myers had something like that.

Beautiful setting, many people strolling around. Weather was beautiful on Saturday. (Not so on Sunday)

If you had a reciprocal garden membership, you could look around at the estate side, on the other side of McGregor.

We were disappointed that their palm collection has diminished. Cycads looked great.

We did get a invitation from Chris (the President & CEO) to bring the Palm Society back.

For those that didn't attend Palmfest 2003 in Fort Myers, a botanical tour of Edison Home gardens was included.

I would be interested to know how many (PACSOF) Palm Society members would be interested in having a meeting there.

To the collectors - keep in mind that this was the 1st time this event was held.

It was not a collectors sale, but if you looked around, there were some rare plants to be had.

I think if it was better advertised in the newspaper, they may have had a better turnout of buyers.

And then next year, more vendors would participate.

We also were disappointed that (Clay/Cleo) Valkeria Gardens didn't bring more crotons.

And the croton collection is no longer what is used to be at the Edison estates.

Geri,

Andrea and I attended Palmfest that year and had truely a great time overthere. I would certainly consider going back again. It was that good.

Geri,

I'd definitely atttend another botanical tour at the Edison home. We need a Palmfest somewhere since the last was in 2005.

I went to the Edison Market on the first day and enjoyed it immensely. I managed to find several uncommon palms, which I hoped but did not expect to find. But the sale was geared for local clientele. Would I have traveled 50 or 100 miles to attend this sale? No way, just as I would not travel those distances to a Venice or Sarasota tropical plant sale, unless I had other activities planned in those areas. For what it was, the Edison sale was great and I would go again in a heartbeat. And you can't beat the ambience beneath those ancient trees. Just the sight of that fabulous H. forsteriana was worth the trip for me.

Ray, Jeff,

I'm not ready to host Palmfest again just yet. Actually, I think if we start the "circle" again, Palm Beach would host it.

But, maybe we can have a multiple chapter meeting at Edison Home, sometime in the future.

I believe they'd like the Palm Society to try to identify some of the plants in their collection that still haven't been labeled.
