Seen this palm in Mexico? The Bahamas? Cuba?

KJ, you missed the Mack Daddy of all P.s. vacation threads in the travel logs... Yes, the pastey white female with me on that trip is of course, no longer with me! whew.gif

http://www.palmtalk.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=13739

me seen dat tred mon. I was trying to stir things up a bit and hoped someone could post those pix from Palms of the P.s. on Elliot Key. Also would still like to discuss the oddities of this palm but I guess there is not much interest in this very weird and evolutionarily unique palm.

I will try to get photos today of some big Fl. Pseudos. Been fishing for a few days!

It would be cool to see some comparisons... I wonder if the one that went to Kansas has even grown?

The ones I started from seed well over a year ago, have been stuck at 2 strap leaves for the last 5 months, with no sign of another leaf showing anytime soon! :(

But they are very healthy 2 strap leaf seedlings!

Hey, since you guys are bragging about your Pseudophoenix sargentii palms, thought I'd brag about mine in Hawaii.

Here it is in flower and fruit at same time. Just took this pic a few days ago (Dec. '08). Does it stand up to those on the Mainland?

Hawaii Island (Big Island), leeward coast, 19 degrees N. latitude, south Kona mauka at approx. 380m (1,250 ft.) and about 1.6 km (1-mile) upslope from ocean.

No record of a hurricane passing over this island (yet!).

Summer maximum rainfall - variable averaging 900-1150mm (35-45") - Perfect drainage on black volcanic rocky soil.

Nice sunsets!

Urban Rainforest Palms,Cycads and Exotics. Were in San Diego Ca. about 5 miles from the beach on Tecolote canyon. It seems to be an ideal growing climate with moderate temps. and very little frost. Vacation Rental in Leilani Estates, big island Hi PM me if interested in staying there.

I did get a price quote on those field grown specimans;$150 per foot overall so most of those trees would sell for around $1500 each.Maybe a little less now that the economy is down.

In Florida,I have noticed that 25 gallon specimans like these have dropped from the $250-$300 range to $200 or less nowadays.More and more people seem to have them available in this size and the price has adjusted accordingly.Probably would be priced 4 times as much in Cali. :hmm:

Go to plantfinder.com,type in the species you're looking for,and it will give you several names and addresses of people that have the plant you're looking for in the size you need. There are literally hundreds of nurseries around South Florida <Homestead> If you take some time to explore a few of them, there's no telling what weird plants you may run across.I have noticed that many of them do have a few Pseudophoenix hiding somewhere. This species is alot more common than it used to be.
