You wouldn't thinks so but occasionaly they get some serious cold. My sister lived in Vegas some years ago and while visiting her on one occasion it was 12F upon wakening one morning.

That'd make a nice Christmas card.

Land O Lakes FL, a suburb on the North Side of Tampa, FL

Summers are great, 90f/32c in the day & 70f/21c at night with plentiful rain & sun

Winters are subtropical with occasional frosts and freezes. Tropical cyclones happen.

We have a few Royal palms in the warm microclimates but Coconuts freeze.

I am a Kayaker, Hiker, Bicyclist, and amateur Photographer that loves the outdoors.

I was just on my way to Vegas from JFK and ended up diverting to Cincinnati. The weather in Vegas was 1/4 mile visibility in snow and fog. Most major airports are equipped with category 2 and 3 instrument approaches, which allow us to land in near zero visibility. Vegas is only cat 1 equipped which is 1/2 mile visibility or better. Also, the Las Vegas airport is so unaccustomed to snow, they have very limited snow removal and deice equipment. They actually ran out of deice fluid so no aircraft could depart causing congestion on the ground. Supposed to make another attempt in the morning. We will see. I was hoping to get a few pics so maybe the snow will stick around until tomorrow.

I'm sure that pic's real.

As others have mentioned, it can get COLD up in there in the Meadows.

And it's not just Vegas.

I remember in 1984 when it snowed HEAVILY in Palm Springs, decking the CIDPs and Washies about a foot thick. It didn't hurt them, though.

Somehow the snow and palms just don't jive. I know that even in their native habitats, they get snow from time to time, but for me in SoFL, snow on palms = DISASTER.

If that happened, can anyone say 86 the palms....."hello Conifer Society?"

For many of the palms you guys have, no doubt that's true. I can't imagine Pigafettas or Arecas taking snow like that, at all. Or Cocos . . . .
