Wondering if any one has any news on the "loneliest palm in the world" growing all by itself in Mauritius at Curepipe Botanical Garden.

Have the botanists of the world given up on propagating it?

Is there even the slightest chance that seed from a Hyophorbe amaricaulis was harvested many years ago and sent to some botanical gardens?

There is a botanical garden in Taipei,Taiwan that lists Hyophorbe amaricaulis as one of the palms it is currently (2006) growing. It even has a photo of the inflorescence, but not the palm itself. Would a photo of the inflorescence be enough tell what it is?

I know that its an extremely long shot, but does any one know some palm people in Taiwan that could have a look and take some photos?

Here's the website for Taipei Botanical Garden.

If there is a last one flowering, could a cross be attempted with another Hyophorbe species? That way it's lineage might continue at least partially.

This is for all the lonely palm trees,

Thinking that life has passed you by,

Don't give up until you,

Drink from the silver cup,

And ride that highway in the sky.

God bless America
