Happy New Year guys,

After last night I'm surprised I'm up this early in the morning. Took a few pictures yesterday of some large properties with palms that I wanted to share.

First one up, Palm grove gardens. Its the property of a former premier who allows visitors during the day. My dad used to work for the same premier as a landscaper in a different property so I ran into a few of the workers who new him. Turns out this trip paid off big time. Manuel a friend of my dad's decided to give me a free Pritchardia Pacifica...and a very decent sized one at that! They are very rare on the island as P.Thurstonii is the preferred plant for Bermuda. Here is a shot of the mother plant. Its probably about 20 ft. Sorry for the quality.

Here is the palm he had given to me. It's strange. To tell the difference between thurstonii and pacifica he counted the number of ridges in the palm leaf.

Leaving Palm grove... Ran into a large stand of various palms including a large Roystonea...Can't identify the taller fan palms. I think they may be livistonas. I know we have L. australis, L. rotundifolia, and L. Chinensis on the island. Please help.

Just outside of the Bermuda Botanical Gardens another LARGE yard. It all goes to waste though! Its 99% grass. So much more room for palms. People here like to mix palms in formal neat gardens. I guess its the English influence.

I prefer the natural look. But here goes.

Hi Michael, thanks for the nice palm photos from Bermuda!

The duck in that last photo is a Muscovy Duck (Cairina moschata) which are native to Mexico, Central America and South America.
