One of the more interesting Sunsets so far this year... Brought to you by some unusual atmospheric optics.  Possibly an Upper Tangent Arc  ..though there are missing elements of that optical phenomena in this example..  Too low in the sky, and facing the wrong direction for it to be a Circumzenithal Arc as well. Interesting regardless.

While quite vague, taking a trained eye to notice,  the two " blobs " in the picture, at roughly the 10 and 2 -O'- clock position,  are something created by ice crystals rather than thicker clouds or something involving the camera. " blob " on the left ( 10 O' clock position ) is slightly brighter than the one on the right ( 2 O' clock position )

The weight of lies will bring you down / And follow you to every town / Cause nothin happens here

That doesn't happen there / So when you run make sure you run / To something and not away from

Cause lies don't need an aero plane / To chase you anywhere

Nice end -of- the- weekend-er: Crepuscular rays created by climbing Cumulonimbus towers feeding into an advancing storm on the horizon, and some small, high altitude Mammatus clouds.

I don't think it's smoke!

The second picture was from two days ago and that was definitely some passing clouds.

The first is from today, but I didn't read about any fires in the area (although I'm on holiday, so I don't spend much time reading the news)

Hopefully there aren't any fires!

First picture is definitely smoke in the mid levels of the Atmosphere, w/ some mid level- type clouds ( likely a form of Alto Stratus ) mixed in ..  Unique manner light is scattered by smoke particles is a dead give away and there have been big fires all over Europe this summer.  2nd picture may be smoke/ general haze trapped near the surface of the Atmosphere as well.

Some examples of the same effects from here:

Sunset last night from the Esplanade in Darwin City. Bushfire smoke enhances our sunsets at this time of the year.

A subtle sunset, brought to you by smoke in the mid and higher levels of the atmosphere, from a unique direction:   ....blown southeast across Wyoming and Nebraska from the Pacific Northwest, south over the Plains, then pulled back to the west over N.M and AZ around the monster High Pressure dome set up over the Great Basin atm.

A couple recent:

Since there have been no recent major Volcanic eruptions, sunset color is likely being caused by wildfire smoke which had been lifted into the Stratosphere.

Yesterday's sunset was definitely a treat. This is probably one of the top 5 sunsets I've seen before. Something to note, these are raw images, no filters or edits.

Cloud colors and form are so intense from the effects of weather events.

Here's a pic with no such recent events effecting the sky. But it is unique to most viewers as it  was captured very far from any land mass.
