We've had some good ones this year ferr' sure,  Fiday night's,  ...might end up in the top 3..

Dramatic " Silver Hour " = a good sign of what is to come..  Some " Silver Sheen " in some of the Cirrus as well.

Naah,    ..Just a quick intermission    ..so you can catch ya' breath or somethin'








Not a camera trick ..or dirty lens ..This is a type of high altitude Cirro-stratus layer starting to form. Grainy, but the sky was ideal for capturing it. Is a passing satellite in the shot too.



Been awhile since a sunset has lasted this long...  Final shot is well  past sundown ...Big reason they're  so freakin' grainy..   Very moody finale regardless..  Enjoy!!































....Unless you like missing out on things ..This is why you never walk away from a sunset after one or two shots..

 Here are some sunset photos from Baracoa, Cuba when I was there in October 2023. The mountain is El Junkie, there is a Coccothrinax species that grows on top. Not that I would ever be able to the top of that one!

Even though I’ve lived here (Santa Monica) for over 30 years, it’s just hard to resist!  A moment later there was even a subtle hint of a minor green flash.

When Winter decides to get in on " Sunset Season "...things can get   ..weird.

A Descending  " Fire Curtain " ( When rain ..or Icy Precip. falls along the back side of a shower / storm  right as the sun is setting in clear sky behind the storm.  )  ..Created by...   ..Ice..   In this case, a mix of  Sleet / translucent, flat Snow grains,  and light rain.   When raining this lightly, a  Rain / Fire curtain would not be as well defined, if defined at all in the " clear slot " between the base of the cloud(s) and the horizon / surface.  It is the ice descending to the surface that is creating a darker / denser curtain.

Was getting pelted by some of that  " Icy Stuff " and down drafting winds while getting the shots.  First time ..anywhere i've lived.. i have captured such an event. ..That includes KS or Ohio..  Wild Stuff.

1 / 07:  A Curtain of Fire ..and Ice..















One last, isolated shower that formed behind the others generating a clearly defined downburst of cold air, driving one final burst of slushy / sleet-y stuff  to the surface as it passed just to my south..  Because the liquid portion of the precip. falling is light, it doesn't create the classic  " outburst " / " Rain Foot " you'd see when a clearly defined,  rain-filled  downburst hits the ground during Monsoon season.
