Some seeds don't need much to germinate. When I joined the International Palm Society last Summer, I received some free seeds from Ortanique. Is anyone growing any of the palms titled below. If so, what are your experiences?

I forgot all about those seeds until today when I came across the envelope. Well this is what I found (taken with camera phone):

I'm growing all of 'em - because Ortanique sent me the same ones.

One D. mananjarensis seed was germinating on arrival (to Australia, mind you), all other species growing well.....will get back to you in 10 years!

Have grown several C.alba and they are easy to germinate and are moderate growers in my climate. A.pupurea if like all the other Archontophoenix's will germinate quickly when fresh and is a moderate grower as well for me.

I've sent a couple of emails to Ortanique about the free seeds. They haven't responded.

Thanks everyone for the responses.

Buffy - It takes a while to get your seeds. Have patience and they will come eventually.

Hi Mari, I bought seedlings of archontophoenix purpurea (with only the first pair of leaves on them)and, now, after almost three months, there is an emerging pair of new leaves on all three seedlings. Good Luck. Peter

Be aware that, especially since the Beccariophoenix have already germinated, they will need a very light mix with little water. Too much water or a heavy mix will rot these guys out. Use a deep pot and their aggressive roots will go to the bottom where it is moist. Let the top dry out. I speak from experience. Most of it on the "rotting" side. Good luck.
