Hi Luke, I've seen a few with some nice red color. These are growing at a friend's house in San Jose.

He has some other colorful looking palms growing on his property including these Royals with purplish colored crownshafts.

Cool! I really like the subtle diffrences in palms that make them seem special. isnt that wat its all about?

I ran into someone recently who had a problem with her palm, she knew I knew about palms. she asked me what was wrong because the fronds were dying. I asked her what type of palm she had. she said "you know. a normal palm!" I continued on a we finally realized she had a "majesty" palm once she found he receipt from Wal-Mart.

Most of mine do that. A nice pretty pink or red as it emerges.

I had been questioning whether this palm was D. lutescens or D.arenarum as labeled.

I went by the Wal-Mart on Apalachee to see if they had anything interesting today. It looks like a morgue for Majestys and roebeleniis. Lots of tropical palm carcasses lying around everywhere. The Mahan one didn't have anything good, except there was a cat palm with about 5 seeds on it.

Mine have that red speaar as well.

With a tin cup for a chalice

Fill it up with good red wine,

And I'm-a chewin' on a honeysuckle vine.

Nice! Too bad they never look good around here. I guess I'll just need to survive with all the really cool Dypsis that do! :mrlooney:

Aside from being fried from the recent freeze, I would say that most of mine have the reddish spears. D. lutescens is a really neat palm that just needs good care, which it usually doesn't get from the average person who buys them from Walmart.

Dean, that does not look like D. lutescens to me, but you are the expert when it comes to Dypsis :winkie: It sure is beautiful palm whatever it is and I bet that it would make an easy hybrid with D. lutescens for what its worth though.

Funny, I always noticed one out of the two we have always looked “brighter” than the other, but never could put my finger on why.
