The 'Flora Filipina' was organized by the Philippine Orchid Society and invited the smaller societies to join in so there were a lot of exhibits featuring orchids.

At the center of the display was this large tree fern. I first noticed the medallions and only then did I realise that it was variegated!!

The beauty is in the details-- check out those leaflets

Can anyone ID this tree? Kinda looks like a coffee tree/plant to me.

Again it's variegated but the leaves look cool to begin with.

Ornamental cabbage--What's the common name for these 'exotics' ?

It was a cloudy day so the lighting was on the gloomy dull side.

Ok, Gene, you're torturing me with all those perfect orchid and bromeliad displays! Looks to me like you have mastered your Nikon! :)

Kim - so you like Bromeliads and Orchids - then you are in for a treat. I have lots of pictures of those. I will also go back on a day when there is actually some sun. The show runs until the monday after next weekend so there is still time.

One thing I notice about these shows is that palms are very under represented. You onlt see one or two added as an accecnt but nt the main feature.

More later.

Ok Kim these ones are for you - the exhibit with a lot of Bromeliads. Neoregelias mostly

Crotons blend in well with the wild colors of the Neos.

I went around twice to take photographs - before teh rain and during.

The ones taken during the rain came out better. The lighting was poor but at least the water brought out and deepened the colors of the plants. Usually a thin film of dust settles on the leaves of Neoregelias and makes the colors muted. People who display these for shows typically wipe each leaf with a wet rag to sort of polish them and bring out the color

the colors just look unnatural.

these are typically 2 to 3 feet across and they basically keep the color year round - the whole plant looks like a bloom
