Another update here sans pictures. :( (computer probs) Anyway, the Howea has opened its second frond since this post started and the spear was "stuck" a bit again too! BUT, I could see the last little bit of necrosis that held it together. I also note that the last "pop" also got the latest spear back to straight.

Zone 10a at best after 2007 AND 2013, on SW facing hill, 1 1/2 miles from coast in Oceanside, CA. 30-98 degrees, and 45-80deg. about 95% of the time.

Here is a bump for gcf a new poster. The update pic (poor, just taken now at dusk), but it is back growing straight as can be (behind the "cross" howea..) BUT, it did get that necrosis thing again about 2-3 months ago, it has pushed well past it..

Random bump for reference to Gonzers post. 

Update, the "oldest" leaves, or close on my Howea were the "reoccurrence" I mentioned above. Knock on wood, my Howea is well past that issue..

Now the roots sticking out in a loop into the ground? That's a different thread I keep meaning to start..
