Here's Col (palmsforpleasure) at Brisbane airport after flying up from Sydney to help out at the annual Australian Palm and Cycad show and sale. Jet lagged by the looks of him.

Set up day, many society members join in to help, most of the work was done by the time these pics were taken, here's a pic which shows 5 forum members, who are from left to right Mark Wuschke (Mark Wuschke) with Col (palmsforpleasure), then Mike (newcal) in the red, two over is Brod (brodklop) and Daryl (Daryl) in the ratpack shirt.

We had just finished discussing the amazing growth spurt in 12 months of the Kentiopsis olivformis shown between Brod and Daryl.

Once an interesting palm topic comes up, there's deep discussions. Here's another angle of the Kentiopsis talks.

We had a quick wander through the gardens in our lunch break...found this Beccariophoenix sp. with ripe fruit on it...of course we left it alone...although some of the local animals had been at it from the look of things...

Happy buyers galore. In case I didn't mention it earler, the Aussie Palm and Cycad society put on this display and sale with the volunteer work of some of it's hard working members. Nurserymen (most of whom are society members) and general members put up the plants for sale and the society obtains a small percentage of the sale of each plant. This annual event is the society's main funding event and keeps aloft the society with it's wonderful ideals and aims and is the main reason I am here on this board talking to you about palms.

Everyone's a winner babe, that's no lie.

Hi Wal

great pictures, It was a big day, lots of stock sold. Greg (Palms for Brisbane) and Teresa (Utopia Plams and Cycads and Claytons better half)are working hard again tonight to organise plams and Cycads to refill the benches. They will need to sleep for a week after this.

We will all be back tomorrow to convert some more people to the joys of palms and cycads and get them to buy a lots for their gardens

Now for a good nights sleep

Sunday was a lot quieter as expected, although those that came in enjoyed the display and picked up some plants. here's some pics I took today.

Have a look at these specials, we had Dypsis decaryi, Dypsis leptocheilos and Wodyeti bifurcata at an All Show special at $3-00 each or 4 for $10. That's my handy work with the sign, there was no budget for materials, I had to make do as they say.

post-51-1237114598_thumb.jpg

I was so tempted to grab these two Ptychosperma myself, woto boho and caryotoides

Dypsis hovotendrina going for a lazy $8 each. Nice markings.

Solid performance once again from Colin who flies up from Sydney every year to help out at the annual show and sale, a big thank you Col from all PACSOA members. Col is a special guy who helps a lot of people out around the globe as well as here in OZ, giving out seeds and plants and asks nothing in return.

Wal, thanks for all the pictures. It looks like everyone had a good time and a great selection of palms. Sure wish I could make one of those sales.

Great coverage of the event! Thanks for posting photos Wal and keeping the rest of the world informed. Sounds like there were some real bargains at the sale! Did economy seem to hurt total sales? Seems like there was a fairly good turn out at the sale. B)

Sales went well which could be due to the great weather this year.

Very nice photos, the sale had a great turnout. I wish I had a shot at some of those books and the palms too. How many vendors were there? It looks like more came to sell than a year ago. I think I spotted John Price in one of the photos, working one of the tables.

Wal,

A great coverage of the event. I think I could of dropped some serious $$$ if I was there. The palms and cycads were really well grown and the prices seemed to be very fair. Maybe next year you can have the sale over here in Florida. :)
