Hello Palm Lovers,

Last Saturday I went to the Cape Coral Garden Club's spring sale. I expected to find the usual suspects: begonias, petunias, etc. (I have nothing against them) but I came across Derek & Jason of Seabreeze Nursery. They had tons of bromeliads but I am fighting addiction to them. There was also another palm dealer from Naples.

I stopped by the booth of an older fellow who specializes in succulents. However, he had a 1 gallon pot of what looked like a dwarf Dypsis. It was a dwarf Dypsis lutescens, he said, and he'd brought back the parent plant from Indonesia years before. Every time his clump got too large, he split it and sold the offspring - about 1 or 2 per year. I immediately bought this little palm, took it home and repotted it (and was it root-bound). This purchase made the sale for me.

I haven't been able to find anything about this palm on the internet, except for 1 picture by Christian Faulkner. His was fuller but otherwise looked like mine.

Is this little guy in my photos what I've seen called "Super Dwarf"? I paid $25 for it, but I think I got a good deal. Any input appreciated. Thanks.

Meg,

Tha WAS a nice find!! These are not found very often and you were really lucky to find this guy selling one at a non-palm sale. I have one growing in the yard, it's planted in filter sun and is doing fine, just real slow. But it is true, you will eventually be able to devide a piece off of it and start another one.

Great find, and price!

Congrats, Meg. I can't find anything to add, other than this forum member photo from last April (LINK). It looks like you found a real bargain!
