Wow, Daryl! Absolutely fan-tas-tic!

Now I know what I lost when my one and only Lemur. "kicked off" last year! I love every one of your photos; it's not too difficult to understand why we hold palms in such high esteem, eh?

Thanks for sharing your "bounty" with us!

Great colors! I guess that Dypsis fibrosa is really a tropical species, so they need high temperatures for growing well?

Robbin

Hi Robbin, I guess they do like warm temperatures. This one has seen down to -1C without any significant damage, but we do have a long, warm growing season here.

Fabulous colours, love the Dypsis. Now that colouration on new leaves,is that a protection against strong sunlight?

Your welcome I hope it stops raining so we can get some pics.

Glad you liked it Rock. Howeadypsis, I have heard a few reasons behind the colouration, but nothing to indicate that it's true. One of the ideas is that a 'red' new leaf looks brown to insects and herbivores, so they don't eat it, saving the new growth on the plant. Another is that chlorophyll development is slower in some species, so the leaves take a while to 'green up'.

Shon, maybe Mike will dust off the camera today, but it is still raining here, and has been all night and day. Can't complain though! Palms are loving it and spitting new leaves all over the place.

Here are some more photos from this morning (keeping careful not to get the camera too wet)...what else can you do when its raining?

Great shots there, and thats some real rain you're getting! Good stuff!

BTW what are the streamers hanging down in pics 1 and 2? At first I thought it was just the rain you'd caught but then I zoomed in and saw they looked green/yellow
