From what I understand the Butia x Syagrus is sterile, hence the nickname "Mule Palm", correct? But does the Butia x Syagrus still produce non -viable fruit/seeds, and if so is it tasty and sweet like the Butia mother plant? Just curious.

The Mule palm is 99.9% Sterile. It does produce fruit/seed. However it is not as tasty as the Butia. It is more bland. If you take some nut crackers and crack open the small seeds after you get the fruit off they taste just like coconut. Here is some photos of a xbutyagrus flowering.

Some XButyagrus are more sterile than others. I've known only about five that have produced offspring. Oddly, the offspring seem to have a higher proportion of F2 selfs than backcrosses or other crosses.
