Our Illicium henryi is flowering. What a great tropical looking evergreen shrub for a shady location. It is native to southern China and is cold hardy to zone 7.

Here is a photo of the trunk of a 360 year old tree in a garden near Suzhou, China. I was there last summer and I just missed the flower season, but I really should have taken more pictures of the canopy and foliage.

Below is the tablet of description underneath this old tree. It was brought back from Yunnan and is called "Child Lotus" for its flower shape and color. It is supposed to be very easy to propagate from seeds, which are very poisonous.
