First off, no there really wasn't a hurricane, but it sure looks like it. The weather Friday evening in Miami Beach was absolutely insane, according to the National Weather Service, we recieved 9 inches of rain in two hours! I was in South Beach myself in the morning for work, and it was sunny, clean, and dry! Later that evening while passing through to meet some friends I saw a totally different world! check out the videos on youtube!!

Rob,

That was a hell of a thunder storm there! Very typical of summers in South Florida.

for me the californian, i actually got back into the port of miami last night from a 5 days cruz in the Bahamas which i will post some pictures in the travel log, but that was the most insane thing i have ever seen. my girlfriend and i where staying in the Biscane Bay marriot and watched the hotel less than 100 feet away get zapped with a bolt of lightining and blow chucks of concrete from 25+ stories... was also able to get some great shots of lightining in the bay i will post these as well.

I once flew into Miami on a small commuter plane during a tropical storm. Luckily, the black downpours all managed to happen while I was indoors. The cheap rental car of the day at Budget was of course a Mitsubishi Eclipse, which sufficed for the trip through South Miami to a meeting beyond there. At noon, with the sun shining, I was the first customer at a nice South Miami restaurant, which did manage to assemble a salad. Everyone seemed seized by post-Andrew trauma.

Zowie!

My kids are bred Californians. My guess is that they would be under the beds during that storm. Very coold nonetheless (without the flooding, of course).

LOL, looks like SoFla in the early summer. :interesting::indifferent:

Last time I saw one like this I was about 6miles off Haulover in a small center console. Waves were blowing over the gunwale into the cockpit, and the wind was so ferocious I couldn't get 300 horses to drive me against it, had to stop fighting the storm and ride with it all the way to Port Everglades... Those squalls can be wicked and can approach extremly fast.

This is Watson Island. Just below the lightning bolt (White roofs) is the 'New" Parrot Jungle. The old one is now called Pinecrest Gardens and they have done some great things with it!

To the far right is the Port of Miami. You can see the Gantry Cranes for unloading containers from the cargo ships. There are twelve in all. I have personal knowledge of this equipement. I get to inspect all twelve in August, very hot and I am not looking forward to it again!

The round white building in the center of the photo is the American Airlines Arena where the Miami Heat play. I just finished testing and inspecting their 10 escalators and 9 elevators last month. Most of the tall buildings are condominiums that were built within the last two years. Most are empty. If you want a great deal on a Miami condominium, you will never get a better deal than now.

Palmfreek, My oldest son and his girlfriend were headed to South Beach and got stranded on the McArthur Causeway for four hours during that thunderstorm. They said it was good after that because it thinned out the Beach a little bit.

From the Golden Glades exchange on 95, and into South Beaech took about 4 hrs on friday, normally takes 20 minutes. Luckily I am already on the beach and was leaving :) was kinda fun to see all that traffic stuck there for hours, and I got to fly by :)

Looks like some intense downdrafts that caused all the wind. Incredible footage. Would be cool if somebody could pull up a radar image of when it happen.
