Encephalartos inopinus for sale.

Recommended Posts

Posted

I have for sale pups of E. inopinus, in one gallon pots and with a 4.5"+ caudex. These have flushed a nice set of healthy leaves, and are good to go in the ground. E. inopinus is very hard to come by, and is one of the more sought after blue Transvaal Encephalartos.

They are $800 each, or $1500 for both. You can email me at cfkingfish@gmail.com if interested. I need to take better pictures and will do so shortly.

I have other Encephalartos, some blue, some tropical greens, feel free to email as well about these:

E. dyerianus

E. princeps

E. laurentianus

E. ituriensis

E. barteri

E. umbeluziensis

E. macrostrobilus

Thanks!

maybe the parent plant hasn't coned yet perhaps? :)

Yes, no coning yet....however it is a large plant and others the same size have both coned male. Females tend to cone at an older age, but that is not always the case.

While you guys are having sex with your cycads, does it really matter whether its male or female?

Bill, I sure hope when my 15 " caudex E. munchii cones for the first time it's NOT a male. Then it would be sick for me to have sex with it! I think I will be worth a considerably larger amount of money if it cones female  Regards, Randy

Guys like us could care less. In fact I like males. They cone cleaner - is that a word? But for those running nurseries, it is important for stuff that grows so slow.

Len, I am relatively new to this. I thought when it comes to rare Encephalartos most collectors would prefer females thus the increase in price? :hmm: Regards, Randy

Of course thats what I meant. I said I could care less if it is a male as I am a hobby guy. But nursery owners want female.

I don't have a nursery however if I produced seed from one of my plants it could help offset the large amount of money this construction worker has spent on wonderful plants! Oh yea I forget your the rich one! :floor: Regards Randy

Here is a picture of a larger male in cone. This has pupped for a few years now, but is not the plant these pups came from.

The purpose of knowing the sex is for those looking to obtain a sexed pair of the same species for seed production. Females tend to be less common and also cone later like I mentioned.

Thanks, but I can't take the credit for the plant. :winkie: I forgot to mention that this is a picture of its first coning, years after its first pupping.

I wanted to post that they are in fact sold. I have one more pup that is 7 inches in diameter, rooted, but has not put out a flush left. That would be $1050. You can email me if you would be interested in this plant.

Thanks!

And Christian hasn't logged on Palmtalk since August.  What are odds that he checks this thread the next time he's on here without any notification?  :P
