San Diego photos!

I was in San Diego over the weekend and took some photos. Not too many, but I have some comparison shots from the beginning of summer (May) to the end of summer (August).... unfortunately, the change isn't too noteworthy. I guess it is the lack of water, since it was not what I was expecting.

The Pacific Ocean! This is taken from a walk my parents showed me that they used to do off of La Jolla Farms Road when they used to live there in the mid 1980's.

I went up to a wedding in Newport Beach, CA for a day and was within at least a mile of the Newport Beach Coconut... but alas, I never got a chance to see it :( This is my only picture taken in the LA area. You can see the smoke from the fire in the background.. I thought it was a thunderstorm cloud.

This was a treat! In Old Town, San Diego I got to see Phytelephas seemannii seeds being put to use in a gift shop! I thought this was really cool. I knew they were called the Ivory Nut Palm, but was very surprised to see that their seeds are just like ivory!

Fantastic, as usual. With the watering restrictions in place, it is no wonder that tropical plants and trees in city landscapes are not growing or looking as nicely as they could. Of course, the problem is that we aren't in the tropics. Still, a lot of the pics show that some species can hold up pretty well to the conditions.

Funny, that Caryota in post #4 looked really familiar -- :) I have a photo of the same one taken early August in Coronado:
