You all REALLY missed this weekend. The Palm Beach chapter had it's annual picnic at the Sallenbach's 6 acre garden where they have been growing palms for over 30 years...talk about mature, rare palms. Dale Holton was our tour director and wowed us with his insight and humor.

Hope there are more pic's, 6 acres should provide plenty of opportunities. Looks like a great place.

Ruth has an incredible garden, where the limits are continually pushed for growing anything tropical there.

The palm in post #2, the first one is a Zombia antillarum, native to Haiti. I hope there are more pictures also.

Hey! I recognize SEVERAL faces there! Cool!!

Zone 10a at best after 2007 AND 2013, on SW facing hill, 1 1/2 miles from coast in Oceanside, CA. 30-98 degrees, and 45-80deg. about 95% of the time.

I do some experiments and learning in my garden with palms so you don't have to experience the pain! Look at my old threads to find various observations and tips!

I am hoping others took pictures. Kitty (Palmermaid) was in attendance together with Ron (Rozpalms). I believe our tour guide Dale is Mapu 1. Also, Betty(what is your handle?) and numerous other knowledgable Palm people.

Pedro atleast had his phone but I left my camera. I did not realize the level of this Garden until I pulled in and saw a gigantic Copernicia m. It is like a jungle (very natural) with mature rare stuff growing all over. We needed Ken, Chris, Bill and Jeff for commentary because poor Mike was being attacked by all the women and kept disappearing.

I am a mere slow learner, who enjoys the scenery. This place is a shocker and I would urge everyone to seek it out. Special thanks to Ruth Sallenbach and the Palm Beach Palm Society for making this event possible.

Dewd this was just a cool September day in South Florida. It is usually hotter and more humid in early November. Ask Dave and nobody is mad at you down here. You still consider bringing firearms!

The palm that is a back drop in my pic is not a sabal but a Corypha umbraculifera. I knew that all along...

The big palm with the feather leaves is either an Arenga pinnata or A. westerhoutii. Just impossible to tell. The first of the last three above might be a Latania palm. Not sure on the last one, maybe a Cryosophila(?).

Funny how lack of scale can mess you up. The last of the three looked like Sabal mauritiiformis to me.
